IHG employees pledge over 1.2 million times to help the wider community during IHG Foundation Week

IHG Foundation Week (10-18 September) was another record breaking year with employees from IHG branded hotels and corporate offices all around the world taking part and pledging their support for the IHG Foundation.

IHG is one of the world’s leading hotel companies, and established the IHG Foundation in 2016 to show the power of hospitality to transform lives for the better. The IHG Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation which works to achieve long lasting benefit for communities all around the world.

During IHG Foundation Week, employees across the globe pledge their support to the IHG Foundation by organising fun activities. For each activity an employee takes part in, IHG makes a donation to IHG Foundation on their behalf. Leading the pledge global leaderboard this year was the AMEA region with an impressive 657,385 total pledges.

Karin Sheppard, Chief Operating Officer at IHG said: “We are delighted with the success of our fundraising activity for the IHG Foundation. The momentum behind the event, the level of support, and the variety of activities our colleagues took part in has been fantastic. This demonstrates the strong sense of shared purpose that is embedded throughout the culture of our organisation”.

IHG employees were encouraged to pledge and take part in as many different activities as they could outside of their daily routines. Highlights included:

  • InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort held their own Tour de Resort by keeping a bike going for 24 hours
  • Crowne Plaza Hawkesbury Valley’s team donated teddy bears for kids in hospital, the kitchen provided chicken laksa to the Richmond Soup Kitchen, the spa team pampered the ladies at the retirement facility next door, the properties loyalty manager rode 800 kilometres and the rooms department donated hampers to Nova Employment for their Christmas activities.

“Crowne Plaza Hawkesbury Valley has always been a strong supporter of worthy causes within the Hawkesbury Region, however Foundation Week gave each department the opportunity to go one step further in making a difference in a way that was significant to them” said Crowne Plaza Hawkesbury Valley General Manager, David Ross.  

“It was a real joy to see the expression on the faces of those we touched in the community knowing we were also contributing to a bigger cause”.

Launched in February 2016, the IHG® Foundation is doing its part to make local communities better places to be for all. The independent charity focuses its activities on four key areas – helping communities to develop skills in hospitality, providing support for those impacted by disasters, encouraging grassroots community support and protecting the environment.
