IMEX in Frankfurt Attendees Generate New Ideas on Making Multi-Generation Workplaces Shine

Day two of IMEX in Frankfurt brought another strong roster of education with attendees exchanging ideas, energy and best practices across keynotes, sessions, forums, campfires and more.

One topic that was top of mind is gaining a better understanding of and embracing the multi-generation workplace.

“Jagger, Madonna, Beyonce & Bieber: Setting the Stage for Each Generation to Shine,” met this subject head-on, aimed at helping participants better understand and meet the varied generational needs of their staffs. Led by Debra Zabloudil, President and CEO of the Learning Studio, the session majored on understanding the attitudes, expectations and values unique to Traditionalists, Boomers, Gen X’ers and Millennials but also quickly touched on Gen Z’s who will enter our markets and workplaces in the future.

The main take-way from the session was that in order to successfully combine and leverage both wisdom and new ideas, we must “Pay full attention and be very deliberate in understanding the individual needs of different groups and dig as far as possible into the data and demographics,” said Zabloudil.

She encouraged that when we do this we will be more successful in replacing our retiring leaders, bringing new clients and employees into the fold, and creating a richer workplace filled with “increased creativity and productivity.”

On Tuesday, Debra also presented at an IMEX session entitled “World Café: The Millennials are Coming – Ready or Not.” This programme, moderated by Terri Breining, Principle of the Breining Group, also included brainstorming break-outs and a multigenerational panel. The Gen Y panelist participating revealed that she finds strong value in being mentored and feels that it can help companies build stronger employee loyalty with younger staff.
