Vichaya Soonthornsaratoon, Director, Meeting Incentives & Convention Department, Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) told eGTM: “We already had 70,000 MICE visitors from India till September and are certain that we’ll pass the record of last year. We’re optimistic about India’s continued growth in future. We had two big groups last month. Tata Communications group had 700 delegates and Second World Hindu Economic Forum had 400 delegates.”

74,941 Indians visited Thailand for MICE purpose during 2012. Asia contributes 65 percent of MICE arrivals to Thailand and India tops the list with 26.8 percent share. China, Japan and Korea followed India in MICE arrivals to Thailand. Australia was the tenth popular MICE market. Short flight times, good connections from different Indian cities and visa-on arrival are making Thailand an attractive MICE destination for Indian travelers.

TCEB delegation consisting of hotels, venues, airlines, tour operators and DMCs had a road show in Chennai and Mumbai last week. There were 895,224 MICE visitors to Thailand in 2012. They stayed an average of 5.5 days and each delegate spent US$536 per day of stay contributing US$ 2.6 bn to Thailand’s economy.

TCEB provides financial support for team building activities, green meetings, golf and spa packages, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, and in arranging cultural performances. Its non-financial support includes for a separate MICE lane at the airport, police escort, event planning and industrial visits.

Soonthornsaratoon said: “Thailand has been adding MICE infrastructure. There’s a new convention centre in Chiang Mai. Many new hotels have opened last year and many more are scheduled for launch soon. Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya and Chiang Mai are the major MICE cities. We’re developing leisure towns of Khon Kaen, Hat Yai and Krabi as MICE destinations as well.”

Special event venue ASIATIQUE The Riverfront in Phuket is spread on 28,880 acres.

Amway India has scheduled its 700 delegate strong incentive tour to Bangkok and Pattaya in December 2013.
