Indigenous Business has chance to win skills and expertise valued at $30,000 as part of PwC & MURRA Boost Initiative for fourth year in row

For the fourth year, PwC Australia and the MURRA Alumni will be providing skills and expertise, valued at $30,000 to one Indigenous Business as part of the PwC & MURRA Boost Initiative.

The initiative is designed to help strengthen business practices and build capacity within an Indigenous organisation in Australia while supporting a specific issue that will allow for future growth.

PwC challenged our strategy for growing the business based upon historical trends and predicted market opportunities. We developed a detailed strategic plan which captures additional demand, focuses our practice management processes, enhances our brand and builds our workplace and workforce for future expansion. As a team we are now focused on not only meeting but exceeding our goals in the next 5 years. It has given us great confidence in growing our business.” said Leah Cameron, Principal Solicitor Marrawah Law and the 2018 Boost Initiative Winner.

This October, Indigenous Business Month will celebrate five years of showcasing the talent and depth of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander entrepreneurs from a variety of business sectors.

The events aims to ignite conversations about Indigenous business development and innovation focusing on this year’s theme Indigenous Ingenuity. Indigenous Ingenuity is all around us. Led by Elders, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have been creating new and clever ways of doing things for thousands of years.

Ingenuity is seen in the many Indigenous businesses around the country from urban, regional and remote locations. It is seen in each and every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander business owner, working hard to build financial independence, and it shines through the many hard-working family businesses balancing business demands in the context of family and community life, creating a legacy of success. Ingenuity radiates from young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander entrepreneurs, whose contributions inspire us all.

Indigenous Business Month co-founder Professor Michelle Evans and Kim Cheater from PwC Australia will be on the PwC & Murra Boost Initiative selection panel.

More so than ever before we need to showcase the diversity and Indigenous business leadership of the Indigenous business sector and to celebrate their success,” said Associate Professor Michelle Evans, Program Director of the MURRA program and co-founder of Indigenous Business Month.

Selection Criteria  

  • Indigenous business – 51% majority owned.
  • The business issue identified will allow for future growth in the business.
  • PwC has the appropriate skills and expertise to support the issue.
  • The scope of work to be undertaken is within $30k budget.
  • No conflict of interest with other PwC related work.
  • A commitment of full and transparent disclosure to enable the team to provide an accurate assessment of your business.
  • Commitment to attend regular meetings with project team (either face to face or via conference call)

Throughout October, over 30 Indigenous Business Month events will take place across the country.

Indigenous Business Month is an initiative driven by the alumni of Melbourne Business School’s MURRA Indigenous Business Master Class, who see business as a way of providing positive role models for young Indigenous Australians and improving quality of life in Indigenous communities.

Indigenous Business Month runs from October 1 to October 31. Check out the website for an event near you (spaces are limited).
