Innovative New Establishment Set to Become a Destination of Its Own in Surfers Paradise

A sophisticated new restaurant and contemporary bar situated on the corner of Surfers Paradise Boulevard and Clifford Street is opening mid-December, each offering unique dining and entertainment experiences unseen before on the Gold Coast.

The adjoining Clifford’s Grill & Lounge and Walrus Social House are both architecturally inspired establishments that would be right at home on the culturally rich streets of Melbourne or SoHo New York. They’re bringing back the original Gold Coast with an emphasis on style, service and a people-proud heritage.

Designed by architectural firm Brand + Slater, Director, Luis Nheu believes Surfers Paradise is crying out for change. “This development provides a new style and quality for both locals and visitors alike. The reinvention of this Boulevard frontage will provide a mix of exceptional offers that the area has been waiting for and will set a benchmark for future development,” said Luis.

Clifford’s Grill & Lounge offers an alfresco interaction for both internal diners and those sitting on the covered deck looking north-east up the Boulevard. Named after the street on which it resides – that too was named in recognition of an icon being world class rower Thomas Clifford of the 1800’s – Clifford’s Grill & Lounge spins a modern dining direction on the traditional grill house. Our Internationally influenced Executive Chef and his team look forward to plating a heartily infused menu from earth to sea, where diners can eagerly watch over a buzzing open plan kitchen featuring a huge ten-burner grill as the centrepiece. The warm warehouse inspired fit out and adjoining plush lounge (perfect for a post dinner tipple or late supper tapas graze) offers a welcoming experience where hours are sure to get lost in good food and good wine.

Walrus Social House truly is an all in one entertainment venue featuring an uber-chic bar and cabana lounge, live music scene, healthily holistic cafe and discreet gaming lounge. Why Walrus? Because in the mid-1800’s in an alcohol scarce time on the Coast, an enterprising ‘Bosun’ built a floating rum distillery aboard an old paddle wheeler called the SS Walrus on which he distilled locals’ sugar cane into prized Walrus Rum. Fittingly, the Walrus Social House will offer a vast selection of international rums and signature rum-based cocktails alongside a flavour-forward tapas menu perfect for social sharing plates. The cafe menu is all about healthy snack-and-go options with fresh juices, smoothies and barista brewed coffee on call daily – dawn to dusk.

Venue Director, Daryn Daniel, is excited about the December launch of Walrus Social House and Clifford’s Grill & Lounge and their diverse offerings. “We’re creating something very special with a somewhat Seminyak Bali feel by day and SoHo New York feel by night – Soho meets Seminyak / City meets the Sea. Currently there isn’t a venue of this architectural style and scale on the Gold Coast catering to those who are after a more sophisticated dining and bar offer that still has a relaxed vibe.”

“With multiple experiences all under the one roof, our patrons will enjoy a very slick bar and cabana lounge, top shelf cocktail menu and wine list, upmarket grill house and Hampton’s styled cafe. We’re envisioning a laid back atmosphere with great acoustic and DJ lounge artists; somewhere not too dark, not too noisy and a place where people can come to relax, chat and chill out. We’re really excited about what we’re bringing back to the icon that is Surfers Paradise,” said Daryn.

Clifford’s Grill & Lounge and Walrus Social House are located at 3032 Surfers Paradise Boulevard, under the Watermark. The G:link Surfers Paradise Station is on the venue’s doorstep, making travel to and from this new dining and entertainment destination an even more appealing experience.
