Jupiters Hotel & Casino’s newest dining venue Garden Kitchen & Bar opened its doors earlier this year to reveal a quintessentially Queensland design that celebrates the beauty of the Gold Coast.
Conceived through a partnership between Jupiters and award-winning multi-disciplinary design firm DBI Design, Garden Kitchen & Bar responds beautifully its natural surroundings, combining local expertise and a clearly articulated conceptual vision to evoke a sense of place and belonging.
The contemporary new venue is the property’s first to offer spacious outdoor dining complete with an outdoor bar and lawn area, and follows the lead of Italian restaurant Cucina Vivo which opened in December 2014 to reveal a stunning balcony overlooking the newly-renovated pool.
Anchored in a lush garden setting, Garden Kitchen & Bar sees a seamless connection between the existing building, outdoor conservatory, spacious deck and expansive lawn area.
An abundance of foliage adorns the interior, while fresh florals accentuate the restaurant’s aesthetic by taking cues from the lush garden setting – reinforcing the notion that the interior spaces have a freshness and connection with the seasonal produce offering.
Natural light filters in through ceiling skylights running the length of the dining and bar area, as the pavilion unveils itself slowly out of the existing building, spatially increasing in volume and expanding to reach the outdoors.
The Star Entertainment Group Managing Director Queensland Geoff Hogg said the venue has attracted a new wave of guests to the property, taking advantage of the region’s 300 days of sunshine each year.
“The vision for Garden Kitchen & Bar was to create a place where locals and visitors can experience everything the Coast is famous for – to taste the iconic flavours of the Gold Coast, celebrate the City’s vibrant atmosphere and draw inspiration from the surrounding natural elements,” said Mr Hogg.
“The versatility of the space and its connection to nature ensures every experience is unique and allows our guests to truly embrace the Gold Coast lifestyle.”
At the forefront of international design, DBI Design has developed a global reputation for its delivery of world leading design innovation with many of their notable projects being awarded international recognition.
Serving as a beacon for the restaurant, DBI’s stand-out design feature for Garden Kitchen & Bar is a bespoke eight-metre high outdoor conservatory offering a contemporary take on the garden gazebo.
Monumental in scale, the conservatory captivates the main vista through the restaurant framing the view to the garden and references local character and form. Its white-washed rustic timber battens enclose the outdoor area spatially but permit natural ventilation, while sheer curtains and tropical cushions serve to soften the space.
Internally, the modern communal dining area is complemented by an open kitchen equipped with Chef’s Rotisserie and an exquisite 13-metre indoor bar.
Susan Rossi, Director of Interior Design at DBI Design, explains that the inspiration behind Garden Kitchen & Bar is very much about the green language.
“The existing building has been completely re-oriented to engage the property’s external assets and the Queensland dining experience could not be better embraced,” Ms Rossi said.
“The design draws inspiration from Queensland’s coastal vernacular, mixed with a contemporary translation of old-world charm, to take full advantage of the site’s natural beauty and become a destination in itself.
“An ubiquitous, live foliage feature wall in the built environment aims to captivate guests on arrival and sets the scene for a welcoming and relaxed dining experience.”
At 750 square metres in size, the restaurant’s expansive lawn area serves as a refreshing element to any outing and sets the scene for dining and conferencing on the Gold Coast. The multi-purpose space lends itself to a unique array of events or occasions, catering for everything from cocktail functions, picnic lunches and outdoor dinners, to team building exercises, pop-up stalls or food stations and outdoor movies for anywhere between 650 and 1,000 guests.
Garden Kitchen & Bar forms part of Jupiters’ $345 million transformation, which will enhance the Gold Coast’s reputation as one of the world’s top tourist destinations.
When complete, the redevelopment – which includes award-winning restaurants Kiyomi and Cucina Vivo, a fresh exterior look, and a new poolside experience – will see the refurbishment of the property’s almost 600 hotel rooms, a new luxury six-star all-suite tower and an array of contemporary restaurants and bars.
Garden Kitchen & Bar is located on the Ground Level of Jupiters Gold Coast and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, from 7am until late.
