When the inspiring story of Mina Guli aired on ABC’s Australian Story earlier this year, the World Expeditions team was so moved that staff reached out to Mina with an offer to collaborate on a new adventure – and the Uzbekistan and the Aral Sea with Mina Guli is the result.

Mina attracted international media attention by attempting to run 100 marathons around the world in as many days to raise awareness of the global water crisis. Like many countries in the Central Asia, Uzbekistan faces ongoing problems due to water scarcity as a result of unsustainable use of the land and resources and travelling there in her company will deliver a unique perspective on the issue and the country generally.

Mina was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and one of the 50 greatest leaders in the world by Fortune Magazine. Her inspirational messages about water scarcity have reached more than 4 billion people.

The touring itinerary has been crafted to include a desert camel ride, a day walk in the Chimgan Mountains, a visit to the remote Aral Sea and the “cemetery of ships”, as well as the highlights of Khiva, Bukhara, Samarkand. Uzbekistan and the Aral Sea with Mina Guli departs Tashkent on 18 April, 2020 and costs $4,750 per person (twin share).

Other standout trips in the region include the 23 day Ancient Silk Road Cities – The Five Stans, a fascinating exploration of the astonishing cultural, architectural and natural heritage of the five former Soviet Republics of Central Asia and the 27 day Silk Road to Samarkand via Kashgar, a 27 day odyssey following the ancient Silk Route from its source in Xian, China, through an ever changing landscape to the fabled city of Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
