Media and Influencers from around Melbourne were spoilt with decadent desserts and sumptuous scones this Saturday at the launch of InterContinental® Melbourne The Rialtos new high tea concept

The guests were treated to an afternoon of sheer indulgence with the new degustationstyle high tea experience, The Clarke SistersTea Party’. A progression from late lunch into afternoon tea, they enjoyed traditional sandwiches, a selection of buttermilk and fruit scones and a choice of main course served to their table on exquisite Noritake China.

The highlight of the day was certainly the delicious Rialto Precinct Dessert Trolley, featuring heavenly cakes from the kitchens of renowned local venues including Vue de Monde, Le Petit Gateau and Merchant Osteria Veneta

Erik Stuebe, General Manager, InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto, commented: “We wanted to embrace the hotel’s history and create a wow experience, taking the quintessential Melbourne high tea and making it unique to our hotel. We’ve added local speciality plated mains and a deconstructed Perrier-Jouët Champagne Cocktail, in addition to all the high tea favourites you have come to know and love.”

Let us take you back to the late 1800s and step into the high society world of the Clarke sisters when Melbourne was reputedly the richest city in the world. Entrepreneur Patrick McCaughan commissioned the original Rialto building on Collins Street. His wife Miss Emma was an affluent high society member and embraced high tea, with the sisters often found spending lavish afternoons swapping stories over fine china teacups. After Miss Emmas untimely passing in 1872, the undeterred Patrick went on to marry her sister Miss Margaret Clarke

Perfect for all occasions or treating someone special, The Clarke SistersTea Partyis hosted in the sundrenched Alluvial atrium, opening to the public on Saturday 3 March, and is available every Saturday and Sunday, with five intimate sessions each day limited to ten people each.
