Intercontinental Sydney and Opera Australia Announce Strategic Partnership to Deliver One-of-a-Kind Experiences for Guests
InterContinental Sydney and Opera Australia today announced an exclusive partnership to amplify the cultural event of the year, Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour, as Official Accommodation Partner 2017, and Supporting Partner of Opera Australia 2017.
At the helm of delivering world-class art and cultural immersions for guests, InterContinental Sydney has curated the ultimate ‘Insider Experience’ package available throughout Gale Edward’s acclaimed production of Bizet’s Carmen this 24 March to 23 April 2017.
The InterContinental Sydney and Opera Australia partnership transports guests to a new level of cultural absorption with a range of exclusive access and experiences including a pre-performance backstage tour of Carmen at Mrs Macquaries Point, access to the Platinum Club lounge for interval drinks and a limited edition signed souvenir program. Completing the culinary experience, the package also includes a pre-performance cheese board and Mumm Champagne inside The Cortile, an exclusive in-room Carmen-inspired cocktail kit – the Rogue Fatale with Spanish white rum, Tempranillo, peach bitters, fresh lemon and house-made lime syrup – plus deluxe breakfast for two.
A lavish Carmen costume pop-up gallery will be activated in the InterContinental Sydney lobby, weaving together the creative collaboration of both partners. Guests and visitors will be able to visit the gallery to experience two costume displays from daring designer Julie Lynch worn by Italian born Josè Maria Lo Monaco, one of the leading mezzo-sopranos of her generation and Australian star Sian Pendry as the exotic Carmen. The curation includes blown-up production images from the set design by Brian Thompson, and storyboards for a visual exploration. The gallery will be activated from 23 March until 30 April 2017.
Jörg T. Böckeler, General Manager & Area General Manager Mulpha Hotels Australia, said: “It is a privilege to partner with Opera Australia. We have an incredibly strong focus on immersive cultural experiences at InterContinental Sydney and it is through collaborations with like-minded partners where we can create highly-personalised and memorable experiences for guests, together.”
Opera Australia’s Artistic Director, Lyndon Terracini AM, said “It’s great to do Carmen on the harbour again and to be partnering with InterContinental Sydney. It’s an opera that everyone loves; it’s one of those pieces that really has everything. There are fantastic big theatrical and musical moments and truly magnificent singers.”
Throughout the performance of Carmen, InterContinental Sydney and Opera Australia will collaborate to deliver a series of exclusive content, latest news and footage via the InterContinental Life blog, with its strong art and culture focus.
