Director of the Thailand Film Office, Department of Tourism, Ubolwan Sucharitkul said that the international film directors would be provided with an opportunity to visit various sites that can be used as shooting locations. During the visit, they will see the potential of Thailand in terms of studio facilities and professional crew in the Thai film industry. With its exceptional potential and services, Thailand will be able to facilitate every aspect of filmmaking.

Ms. Ubolwan said that the Department of Tourism would focus on making better known Thailand’s secondary tourist cities, such as Mae Hong Son in the North, Krabi in the South, and Samut Prakan in the East. This will introduce new places of interest for shooting locations in the country.

She said that, from January to September 2013, Thailand earned 1,443 million baht from foreign film projects in the country. It is expected that earnings from foreign film production here in 2013 will increase by a range between 5 and 10 percent over 2012.

The Thai government has a policy to encourage foreign filmmakers to use Thailand as the location for shooting their films. It also intends to make the country’s diverse shooting locations better known worldwide. This will promote the local film industry and tourism, as well.

Thailand’s diverse geographical characteristics, historical sites, natural beauty, local cultures, and the hospitality of the people have made the country attractive for international film producers. All locations are conveniently accessible via modern and convenient transport modes.

Among the most attractive destinations for foreign filmmakers are Bangkok, Ayutthaya, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Krabi. An extensive variety of accommodation, food, transportation, and services in these areas is available for them.

Permission to film in Thailand is granted by the Film Board of Thailand, which comprises representatives from several government agencies. Officials involved work in an integrated manner to grant speedy permission for filming here at a One-Stop Service Center.

In order for foreign production companies to film features, television, video visions, or still pictures in Thailand, it is advised that a Thai-based coordinator be hired to assist them.

Thailand aims to develop itself as a major production service hub in Asia. It has offered numerous incentives to filmmakers to use Thailand as locations for film shooting. Further tax incentives are also being considered by the Ministry of Finance.
