International showcase opportunity for NZ tourism operators

Top New Zealand tourism operators are being invited to showcase their businesses at TRENZ 2014, New Zealand’s most important annual tourism business event.

TRENZ is returning to Auckland’s waterfront in 2014, taking place at The Cloud and the newly renovated Shed 10 on 18-21 May. The 1000-delegate event used this venue for the first time in April 2013 to widespread praise for the central city location and fantastic surroundings.

“We are looking forward to hosting influential international travel trade representatives and media at TRENZ, where they will find the people and places of New Zealand awaiting them,” Tourism Industry Association New Zealand (TIA) Chief Executive Martin Snedden says.

A number of changes are planned for TRENZ 2014 to ensure that both New Zealand tourism operators and international buyers get the most out of the business opportunities at TRENZ. There will be more opportunities for New Zealand businesses to promote themselves to buyers, before, during and after the event.

Opportunities for delegates to develop existing business relationships and build new ones will be increased.

“We are working hard to ensure all delegates – both New Zealand and international – get great value from their investment in attending TRENZ. Other changes to the TRENZ programme will be announced over coming months,” Mr Snedden says.

Tourism New Zealand Chief Executive Kevin Bowler says it will be placing a new focus on targeting buyers from the emerging markets of India, Indonesia and Latin America.

“In line with our recent injection of new funding to target emerging markets, this year Tourism New Zealand will aim to bring an additional group of buyers to TRENZ,” Mr Bowler says.

“We know that TRENZ 2014 and Auckland will provide the perfect introduction to New Zealand for new buyers from India, Indonesia and Latin America, and will undoubtedly inspire them to create more New Zealand itineraries into their travel offerings.”

Auckland Tourism, Events & Economic Development (ATEED) Manager Tourism Jason Hill says Auckland is excited to be hosting TRENZ again.

“After a successful event last year, it’s great to have this opportunity to expose more of the region’s activities and attractions to an international audience. TRENZ is also a valuable business event for Auckland,” he says.

Mr Snedden is encouraging the New Zealand tourism operators interested in attending TRENZ 2014 to get their applications in.

“The number of applications nearly always exceeds the space we have available for exhibitors so operators need to ensure they apply before the deadline of 15 November.”
