Interpets – the four-day international fair for a better life with pets – is preparing for its seventh edition, taking place from 30 March – 2 April (Thu – Sun) 2017 at Tokyo Big Sight East Halls 2 & 3. The show is the largest pet related fair in Japan, and the only one with an international nature. It features a unique concept by not only showcasing pet food and pet products, but also providing a platform where new ideas and business can be incubated by bringing together the pet industry with the fields of housing, interior design, fashion, IT, automobiles, tourism and leisure. The fair will be zoned by lifestyle scenes e.g. ‘Outing’, [email protected] and ‘Learning’ in order to stimulate visitor’s imagination, and to make it possible for them to find their desired items and services easier. Building on the big success of the 2016 event which featured 54% more exhibitors and 25% more visitors than the previous year, Interpets 2017 is already attracting twice as many applications from exhibitors from around the world as the same month the year before.
In 2016, a record-breaking 359 exhibitors from 20 countries and regions (Domestic: 293, Overseas: 66) occupied an exhibition space which was twice as large as the previous edition, and welcomed 27,580 visitors and their pets from 28 countries and regions (Trade: 9,881, Public: 17,699, Pets: 10,009). The show received favourable feedback from participants, and the official survey showed that 95.5% of exhibitors are planning to return and 88% of visitors are intending to visit the next fair. Interpets therefore, has cemented its position as an Asia Pacific meeting point for the pet related industry, as well as pet owners and potential pet owners.
Even if the number of households with dogs and cats in Japan has decreased by 2.5% to 19.8 million in 2015 compared to the previous year, the size of the pet market has shown steady growth in recent years, and grew by 1.3% (up to 14.4 billion USD) last year. The largest increases were seen in the fields of premium petfood, healthcare products and services, veterinary care and pet insurance. Showing pet owners’ demand for a healthier, safer and more comfortable living with pets is growing. Pets are no longer just pets in Japan; they are important members of the family.
With the show’s focus on adding more variety to its product coverage e.g. Internet-of-things related products, its lineup of participatory events, and various inspiring seminars and lectures, Interpets will be an excellent fit for pet owners, potential pet owners and anyone in the pet industry who is seeking a wide range of products and information.
The fair will open exclusively to trade visitors on the first day, and then to both trade and public visitors from the second day onwards, and is once again held concurrently with the “FCI Japan International Dog Show” organised by the Japan Kennel Club under the title “AJPET (ALL JAPAN PET EXPO in TOKYO).” In response to the increasing number of overseas exhibitors, the fair will again conduct a business matching programmme, which was first implemented in 2013. It will be offered to overseas exhibitors on the first day of the show, inviting decision-making buyers from leading wholesalers, trading houses and retailers in the pet industry in Japan to have tailor-made meetings with them.
