Ipass Enters Into Strategic Partnership With Fon That Will See Nine Million New Wi-Fi Hotspots Added To Its Global Network
iPass Inc. (NASDAQ: IPAS) and Fon Technology, the two largest Wi-Fi networks in the world, today have announced a strategic partnership to bring nine million community hotspots from participating Fon partners to business clients using iPass. The agreement will provide iPass with additional Wi-Fi capacity to offer its enterprise customer base, while both parties are in further discussions to provide members of the Fon community with access to iPass’ worldwide premium hotspot network at airports, hotels and other public areas. In combination with other recent network partnerships, iPass enterprise users will have access to 50 million Wi-Fi hotspots worldwide by the end of 2015.
“Our vision is Wi-Fi that is unlimited, everywhere and Invisible. I’m really excited about partnering with Fon as it supports this vision through significantly increasing our Wi-Fi hotspot footprint globally. When I came on board back in February, we stated we wanted to double the size of our network by the end of the year, and this partnership goes a long way to supporting this goal,” said Patricia Hume, Chief Commercial Officer at iPass. “Our unlimited global Wi-Fi network is ideally suited to today’s ‘Wi-Fi first’ business user, and the addition of these new hotspots means they can get online in more locations than ever before.”
iPass enterprise customers will be able to access the newly added Fon hotspots as part of their iPass subscription. Through a single log-in, users can obtain automatic and unlimited access to cost-effective and secure global Wi-Fi via smartphones, tablets and laptops.
“We are pleased to partner with iPass in providing unlimited connectivity to its enterprise customers,” said Carleen Chou, Head of Business Development and Sales at Fon. “We are also very excited about working towards adding access to premium locations for members of our Fon community. We believe that our two companies have a very complementary set of customers and networks, and are working together to provide easy, ubiquitous and affordable Wi-Fi access to the world.”
