I was a tad surprised to see Mike Abbott GM Operations for Uber for this part of the world listed as a speaker at this year’s Maximum Occupancy Conference in Sydney, with the conference all about accommodation.
When I heard Mike’s presentation and chatted with him, Uber’s vision of partnering and creating business relationships with the accommodation sector, quickly clarified things for me!
When Uber launched in San Francisco, the word “disruptor” was pretty new to the world, well to me at least and also to the world’s taxi and limousine industry, but clearly Uber has created exponential change in that world and more and now operates in cities all over the world.
With Uber now one of the world’s most successful companies in the disrupter sector and the sharing economies, it was great to hear Mike share the company’s secrets of success and their view on the hotel sector including Air BnB and also perhaps how hoteliers need to begin thinking disruptively in their space before someone else does!
With Mike providing a very interesting look at the hotel and accommodation industry from the outside, I also asked him about the issue of insurance when passengers use Uber X cars, those are the private vehicles, and to check out what he had to tell me and some very reassuring good news, all you have to do is check out my interview with Mike at Maximum Occupancy, by clicking on the video below!
