unnamed-34Mirroring the sentiments of Oscar Wilde when he said “Mere color, unspoiled by meaning, and unallied with definite form, can speak to the soul in a thousand different ways,” Samantha Marion’s artwork, which is on display at Italics Bangkok from 8 December, invites diners to unleash their imagination.

Sponsored by the restaurant’s owning company, Akaryn Hotel Group, the exhibition will begin with a live painting performance by the artist while guests enjoy free-flow tapas compliments of the house and special-priced drinks throughout the evening. They will also take home an original miniature painting from the artist herself.

“As a design-focused hotel group, art is the anchor of a lot of what we do. It’s therefore fitting to end the year at Italics with a creative slant. We’re proud to host The ‘Movement of Color’. It’s an inspired and ambiguous set of artworks which we hope will spark conversation and interest for our diners,” said says AHG founder and managing director, Anchalika Kijkanakorn. .

A self-taught American artist based in Bangkok, Samantha Marion explores her curiosity and unique creative process through acrylic, watercolor, oil paints, permanent markers and recycled canvases, preferring to use her hands instead of paint brushes to create the fluid shapes and bright, bold colors that can be seen in most of her work.

As a firm believer that nothing in art is wasted, Samantha often reuses canvases and watercolor paper, letting her art turn into something new again and again. This sustainable sensibility is reflected in Akaryn Hotels Group’s food and beverage philosophy with menus featuring a plenty of organic ingredients.

The Movement of Color will be on display at Italics Restaurant from 8th December 2016 until 28 February 2017. Call +66 2 253 2410 or for details or to make a reservation.
