Over 140 Independent Travel Group members and partner suppliers congregated at exciting and vibrant W Hotel in Hong Kong for the 4th ITG Business Forum this weekend.

The theme of Smarter, Faster, Stronger was present throughout the presentations, workshops and partner sessions and in keynote presentations by renowned business journalist Michael Pascoe and social media expert Kim McKay.

A very thorough, and timely update on AFTA and the new accreditation scheme and what it means for the industry — and specifically for independent travel agency members — was delivered by AFTA CEO Jayson Westbury.

CEO ITG Tom Manwaring, in his keynote address said that in the very short space of four years, ITG has grown exponentially in membership, to over 200 members and affiliates and with compound revenue growth of 52% per annum total transaction value.

Mr Manwaring said the growth was underpinned by investment in customer research, locally-developed technology based on agency feedback and built for travel agents, and a comprehensive suite of brand options which assists travel agents to engage with existing and new customers, all in a low cost model with product options that suit an agents’ local market.

In the Smarter, Faster and Stronger presentation, Jonathan Nelson (National Sales Manager) and Ari Magoutis (Executive General Manager), discussed how members can work smarter on the frontline, be faster to market with the range of digital and social media services developed by ITG and be stronger in their local and wider communities utilising their own brand and image or benefit from the all encompassing italktravel brand offering by the group. Italktravel, launched earlier this year, offers exclusive territory and profit share scheme.

The “talk to us” session, moderated by Michael Pascoe, enabled all members to contribute to ITG’s development and next steps – a session well received. It has been included since the very first forum.

The forum was capped off with an extravagant Gala Dinner event at Sky100, overlooking spectacular Hong Kong harbour and skyline. Sponsored by The Travel Corporation, the evening highlight was the ITG Agent of the Year Award presentations.
