Fraser Coast Regional Councillor with the Tourism portfolio, Stuart Taylor, said Sunrise would focus on iconic local experiences including whales in Hervey Bay and camping on Fraser Island.
“After the incredible success of Sunrise’s whales visit in 2013, the ice cream van in Scarness in 2014 and again recently in Maryborough for the Mary Poppins Festival we can officially say that Channel Seven’s flagship morning program is in love with the Fraser Coast.”
“We are of course delighted the program is returning to showcase our natural wonders live to thousands of Australians – it’s exposure that you just can’t buy,’’ Cr Taylor said.
The Sunrise team will commence filming on Monday afternoon. The program will include live weather crosses to popular presenter Edwina Bartholomew on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings next week.
Weather permitting, it is hoped a segment on Hervey Bay’s immersive whale experiences where nature lovers can enter the humpback’s domain for up close and personal encounters will be featured.
Jill Perry from Hervey Bay Whale Watch said the visit would enhance what had already been a bumper whale watch season.
“With great weather and plenty of exciting whale activity in the Bay, we are enjoying a very strong season.”
“We are very pleased to welcome the Sunrise team aboard to raise awareness of our beautiful area and the quality of whale watching we have, which is unsurpassed anywhere in the world,” Jill said.
