Jalaluddin Travel and Services Pte Ltd, the award-winning Muslim travel agency, announced today that it would continue serving the Muslim community in Singapore through the provision of Haj tour packages for the year 2019. This is in addition to its current lineup of Umrah tour packages. Together, they form the core of the agency’s travel services.

The Haj itself is the fifth pillar of Islam, comprising a pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia. It is a compulsory religious duty for all followers of Islam, who must perform it at least once in their lifetime provided that they are physically and financially capable of making the trip and can support their family while they are away. Each year, millions of Muslims from all over the world make the journey, creating one of the largest single gatherings of Muslims on Earth.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia recently increased Singapore’s Haj quota for pilgrims from 800 in 2017 to 900 in 2018, according to the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS), the statutory body responsible for looking after the interests of Singapore’s Muslim community. However, this makes up less than 1% of the Muslim population in Singapore, and first-time applicants may have to wait up to 14 — 20 years to be allocated a place.

Remarking on the agency’s continued provision of Haj tour packages, managing director Ustaz Jalaluddin Hassan said, “We at Jalaluddin Travel and Services are honoured to support Muslims in Singapore through our Haj tours and services. We look forward to embarking on a spiritual journey with our travellers, and providing excellent service.”

Established in 2008, the agency is a member of the Association of Muslim Travel Agents (AMTAS) and serves a primarily Malay-Muslim clientele. It provides education and training (including religious classes and seminars) in addition to its pilgrimage tours.
