Janet McGlennon Interiors creates ‘Crystal Garden’ at Singapore’s Changi Terminal 3

Terminal 3 at Changi Airport Singapore has received a comprehensive redesign to its Central Piazza through local firm Janet McGlennon Interiors Pte Ltd (JMI).

JMI has reconfigured the Central Piazza into a lush nature centrepiece with an atmosphere of calm imparted by organic, floral themes creating ‘The Crystal Garden’ which invokes the outdoors to enrich the space.

JMI created key bespoke elements to enhance the area’s atmosphere: the focal point of the nature centerpiece features spheres of artisan glass which mimic dandelions: custom-commissioned from Czech lighting installation specialists LASVIT. The dandelions evoke associations of flight, scattering to diverse destinations and the passage of time. The glass sculptures spray from mirrored bases as if floating on infinity pools; several rise higher, playfully unifying the spaces.

The carpet is a work of art, custom-made to a one-off design by JMI, a painterly creation at once artisanal and memorable in a botanical pattern of regal blues and greys marrying floral motifs with water and sky tones.

JMI has also redesigned the seating lounge behind the Piazza and the link bridge at the upper level, providing areas for travellers to congregate in an intimate setting reminiscent of a five-star hotel lobby.  These spaces echo the Piazza’s colours, patterns and organic motifs, while semicircular pods and paired wing-backed chairs provide intimate gathering zones.

The reconfigured area, completed in December 2017, is now open.

Janet McGlennon, Principal Creative Director at JMI, said: “Our design philosophy has succeeded in creating a contemporary and luxurious setting that is timeless in its style with botanical nuances that resonate with Singapore’s unique ethos. We are delighted to have been commissioned to create this marquee project and grateful for the opportunity to create something unique to enhance the experience of Changi’s Terminal 3.”
