THE Japan’s ski season is upon us and is a renowned popular ski playground for Aussie snow lovers, with its powder snow fields, huge range of runs and warm ski village atmosphere- it is also famous for having one of the best rail systems in the world.

JR Shinkansen Bullet Train

What some ski travellers may not realise though that the specialised Japan Rail Pass for international guests can only be purchased outside of Japan prior to arrival and one of the easiest ways to purchase these are through rail specialists International Rail.

There are special rail passes for various regions such as the Japan East Pass, which is perfect for use during the ski season as it not only includes metropolitan Tokyo but many of the popular ski regions such as Nagano, Niigata, Sendai, Morioka, Misawa and Akita.

This pass is available for five days of flexi travel over a 14 day period from $271 and can only be purchased and ticketed outside Japan- however route and seat reservations can be done once you have arrived in the country to allow flexibility with changing holiday plans.
