Jaw-dropping plane vid – yet everyone walked out OK

May 5, 2017 Headline News No Comments Email Email

Imagine driving along a freeway when suddenly a plane crash-lands right in front of you, clipping power lines and exploding in a fireball.

It was all captured on dashcam video on Wednesday in Seattle – and the most extraordinary aspect is that no-one was seriously hurt. The pilot and his passenger walked away with only minor injuries. Seeing the crash, you would hardly believe it.

Reports from Seattle said the small single-engine Piper Cherokee suffered an engine problem after takeoff and the pilot was heading to land on an available runway when the plane clipped power lines and hit the ground in a fireball.

Police told the Seattle Times several cars were damaged in the crash and subsequent fire.

Australians may find the footage reminiscent of the video shown of a light plane crash in Melbourne in February. That had a much more serious outcome, being  Victoria’s worst civil aviation accident in 30 years. It involved a five-person Beechcraft King Air twin-engine charter plane which slammed into a shopping centre near Melbourne’s Essendon Airport, killing pilot Max Quartermain and a group of American golfers.
