The first edition of Jharkhand Travel Mart launching in the state’s capital city Ranchi has officially opened its nature, heritage and culture rich avenues to tourists. Jharkhand Travel Mart 2018, organised by Department of Tourism, Government of Jharkhand and Sphere Travel Media & Exhibitors, was held from 23 to 26 March at The Mega Sports Complex in Ranchi.

Dr Manish Ranjan, Secretary-Tourism, Government of Jharkhand, said: “Jharkhand will contribute immensely to the Indian Tourism portfolio with its diverse tourism attractions. The event is an extension of our aggressive marketing approach to introduce various destinations and reinforce the Jharkhand Tourism brand.”

The forest, nature and mineral endowed East Indian city with a big forest cover had remained a hidden treasure due to lack of infrastructure. The same had rendered a hiding place for Naxals (socialists fighting for equal rights to all).

Sanjeev Kumar Besra, Director Tourism, Government of Jharkhand, said: “Infrastructure development with road network, hotels and other public facilities has also helped develop tourism and curb such incidents. Primarily this is more of an image issue. Incidents of Naxal insurgence have gone down substantially and no drastic incident has happened in last few years. Stray incidents happening in some remote areas don’t affect tourists.  It’s safe to travel in Jharkhand during day or night and people are very friendly.”

Jharkhand ranking seventh in tourist arrivals in India is a testimony to the state’s safety and popularity. It received 200,000 International and 3 million domestic visitors last year.

Rohit Hangal, Director, Sphere Travel Media & Exhibitions, said: “Jharkhand is very exciting, something different and something new. It’s an eco-tourism haven with nature filled experiential holidays that are considered a luxury by avid travellers. The event is an effort to create a platform for tourism stakeholders in Jharkhand to meet with travel trade professionals from across India and develop a distribution network.”

Over 150 buyers and media from 20 different markets in India were hosted to attend Jharkhand Travel Mart 2018. 75 exhibitors from Jharkhand and others parts of the country were from 10 diverse tourism segments.
