In October 2019, Latitude 33 will be hosting an exclusive 22-night Deserts and Glaciers tour in South America for an intimate group of 30 guests.

Experiencing the extremes of Patagonian Glaciers and the Atacama Desert, this unique itinerary encompasses a multitude of once-in-a-lifetime experiences, including a tango performance in Buenos Aires and a chance to explore Argentina’s remote city of Ushuaia, otherwise referred to as ‘the end of the earth’.

Arriving in Buenos Aires on 26 October, travellers will check into the modern Alvear Art Hotel in the heart of Buenos Aries for 3 nights. During their stay they will be able to discover the vibrant city at their leisure or join a guided tour, and also take in a mesmerizing dance performance at the iconic Gala Tango.

Next, they will fly to Ushuaia, staying at the Arakur Ushuaia Resort & Spa for 2 nights. Perched 800 feet above sea level and surrounded by native forests, the resort delivers spectacular views overlooking the world’s southernmost city. A highlight is a half-day excursion to the Tierra del Fuego National Park, discovering its glaciers, lakes, mountains and abundant wildlife.

On 31 October, guests will board the newly launched MV Ventus Australis, tailor-made to navigate the rugged coastline at the southern tip of South America. This 4-night cruise will sail through narrow fjords and channels, reaching some of the most remote corners of the planet, and allowing passengers to get up, close and personal to groaning glaciers, hike secluded beaches, explore lush sub-polar forests and discover elephant seals as well as the many other creatures who call this region home.

Docking at Chile’s Punta Arenas on 4 November, travellers will be transferred to the unique explora Patagonia Hotel where they’ll spend the next 5 nights. Located in the heart of the Torres del Paine National Park, the explora Patagonia is the only hotel located on the shores of Lake Pehoe. Here, surrounded by mountains, ice fields and sea, guests will be spoilt for choice with over 50 different guided hikes and horseback tours available. And for a truly authentic local experience, guests can visit the 2 de Enero Ranch and experience the fascinating gaucho culture.

On 9 November guests will fly from Patagonia to the Chilean capital, Santiago, where they’ll spend 3 nights at Hotel Cumbres Lastarria, and enjoy activities including a day-long wine-tasting tour of the nearby Casablanca Valley where they can sample the robust flavours of its famed local wines.

On 12 November, guests fly to Calama, an oasis in the midst of Chile’s highland desert, before setting off on an hour-long drive to San Pedro de Atacama for a 5-night stay at theexplora Atacama Hotel.

On 17 November travellers can either depart Calama for their onward flight home or opt to extend their stay in South America with a trip to Pucon, in Chile’s Central Lake District staying at Hotel Vira Vira, or explore wildlife in the Galapagos.
