July 2015 YTD U.S. – International Air Passenger Traffic up Five Percent

International air traffic to/from the U.S.(1) totaled 121.6 million passengers through July 2015, a five percent increase over the July 2014 year-to-date period.

U.S. citizen travel (56.0 million) was up six percent and composed 46 percent of all air traffic. Non-U.S. citizen air travelers (65.6 million) increased by four percent with their market share at 54 percent.

U.S. airlines carried 62.0 million passengers, up one percent, with their share at 51 percent. Foreign flags carried 59.6 million passengers, up nine percent from the same period 2014.

The following, overseas, Canada and Mexico regions are ‘breakouts’ of international:

Overseas air traffic accounted for 89.0 million passengers, 73 percent of all international, and grew by five percent.

U.S. citizen travel (41.0 million) was up five percent composing 46 percent of overseas air traffic. Non-U.S. citizen air travelers (48.1 million) were up by four percent holding market share at 54 percent.

U.S. airlines carried 43.5 million passengers, up one percent, their share slipping to 49 percent. Foreign flags carried 45.5 million passengers, up eight percent from July 2014 YTD.

Estimated capacity (379,600 seats) on non-stop flights from PRC was up 27.7 percent year-over-year exceeding overall inbound passenger growth of 25.7 percent.

Chinese carriers increased weekly frequencies from 120 to 165, up 38 percent.

U.S. carriers increased weekly frequencies from 117 to 136, up 17 percent.

North American markets accounted for 27 percent of U.S. international air traffic flows.

Canadian air traffic accounted for 16.7 million passengers, 14 percent of all international traffic, and increased by four percent.

U.S. citizen travel (4.7 million) increased 10 percent and composed 28 percent of air traffic.

Canadian, and other foreign national citizen air travelers transiting through Canada (12.1 million), increased one percent. Market share slipped to 72 percent.

U.S. flags carried 6.8 million passengers, down four percent from last year, and their share dropped to 40 percent. Foreign flags carried 9.9 million passengers, up 10 percent.

Mexico air traffic accounted for 15.9 million passengers, 13 percent of all international traffic, and was up 10 percent.

U.S. citizen travel (10.4 million) increased 11 percent and composed 65 percent of air traffic. Mexicans, and other foreign national air travelers (5.5 million) transiting through Mexico, increased by eight percent, with market share at 35 percent.

U.S. flags carried 11.7 million passengers, up five percent from last year, but their share slipped to 74 percent. Foreign flags carried 4.2 million passengers, up 28 percent increasing share to 27 percent.
