Ahead of its opening, the Ibis Mackay has also appointed an experienced new general manager, Scott Grant, to oversee the hotels operations.

Scott has long history with the Accor group in Australia since commencing in December 2004 at the Mercure Inn Continental Broome as Food and Beverage Manager. Scott then spent a year working out of the Accor group, and re-joined in August 2006 as Food and Beverage Manager at the Mercure Resort Great Keppel Island.

Subsequently, Scott was appointed General Manager at the All Seasons Alice Springs, before relocating to Sydney to assume the role of Executive Assistant Manager at the Menzies Hotel in March 2009. Scott acted as General Manager at the Ibis Newcastle, Ibis Thornleigh and Ibis Darling Harbour and was then appointed to his most recent role as General Manager at the Mercure Olims Canberra in August 2011.

Speaking on his appointment, Scott said, “I am very excited to be part of the launch team for this highly anticipated new hotel in Mackay.

“Ibis Mackay will be the only hotel located in the Mackay Airport precinct – a well-connected gateway to the Mackay, Isaac and Whitsundays region – and the first purpose-built international standard economy hotel in Mackay, so when we open our doors in June, it will be a true milestone occasion for Accor and the destination.

“The addition of quality and affordable accommodation at Mackay Airport will stimulate travel from a range of markets and cater to the needs of the various sectors that require airport accommodation on a regular basis.”

Mackay Airport General Manager, Rob Porter, said he look forward to Ibis Mackay Airport opening its doors on 1 June to offer workday and holiday travellers a convenient accommodation option right across from the terminal along with a range of facilities that are sure to prove attractive to the people of Mackay as well as hotel and airport guests.

“We’ve seen the Ibis Mackay Airport Hotel rise up out of the ground to become a distinctive new feature on the airport skyline,” Mr Porter said.

“I congratulate Woollam Construction on their delivery of this project which generated around 250 jobs during construction. We look forward to working with Accor as the hotel operator and welcome Scott Grant to Mackay as its General Manager who will lead a team of around 40 people once the Ibis Mackay Airport hotel is open for business.”

Providing guests with a true premium economy experience, the new hotel prioritises quality bedding, very contemporary design and outstanding use of space, assuring a high quality stay at an affordable price

In addition to its 152 guest rooms and convenient airport address, the new Ibis hotel will also feature a restaurant and bar, gymnasium, Wi-Fi coverage and a large tavern on the ground floor to cater to the needs of travellers in transit and the surrounding Paget industrial area.

When it opens in June, it will join a network of over 60 ibis hotels in Australia and more than 1,600 worldwide.

Ibis is part of Australia’s largest hotel group, Accor, which is also the largest operator of hotels in airport precincts in Australia, including Ibis Budget Brisbane Airport, Novotel Brisbane Airport, as well as hotels at Melbourne, Sydney and Perth airports.
