Australia’s cherished and last remaining Grand Hotel of the Victorian era, The Windsor, is offering an exclusive room and arts package for visitors to Melbourne during a captivating art exhibition titled “Marvel” by some of Australia’s most talented emerging artists from the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA).

Coinciding with Melbourne Day on 30 August and valid until September 14, the “Marvel at The Windsor” offer includes luxurious accommodation in a historic Victorian Suite, a private tour of the exhibition, full breakfast for two in the hotel’s heritage dining room and a bottle of red wine and cheese served within the comfort of each suite. 318760_num875305_600x600

The Victorian Suites at The Windsor have been the Melbourne home visiting celebrities and politicians from Sir Robert Menzies to Paul Keating and Barry Humphries.  The offer is a tribute to “Marvellous Melbourne” and is priced at only $559 per night for two in a Victorian Suite or $399 per couple in a Deluxe Room.

Marvel features artists from the VCA (School of Art) at The University of Melbourne who will creatively exhibit conceptual and material interpretations in many of the hotel’s unique spaces including the heritage listed lace iron lifts, Victorian windows, renowned tea room and even a once secret hotel entrance.

A highlight of the exhibition will be The Windsor Art Award that will provide a $10,000 scholarship to the recipient. Marvel has significant relevance for Melbourne, The Windsor and the VCA with its numerous historical and contemporary connotations of wonder, admiration and astonishment.

The exhibition highlights the partnership between two of Melbourne’s most cherished institutions that share a combined history of more than 280 years.  In 2017, the VCA School of Art will celebrate 150 years since the establishment of its predecessor, the National Gallery School. Established in 1883, The Hotel Windsor is Australia’s oldest Grand hotel and is one of the world’s most revered hotels of Victorian architecture, pre-dating The Savoy in London, Raffles in Singapore, the Ritz in Paris and The Plaza in New York.  Past and present notable guests include Vivien Leigh, Sir Laurence Olivier, Sir Robert Helpmann, Katharine Hepburn, Gina Lollobrigida, Lauren Bacall, Rudolf Nureyev, Margot Fonteyn, Gregory Peck, Meryl Streep, Barry Humphries, Royalty and a long list of Australian Prime Ministers.

Reservations for “Marvel at The Windsor” can be made by contacting the hotel on (03) 9633 6002 or email reservations@thw.com.au. The offer is valid from 29 August until 14 September and is subject to availability.
