K11’s 5th ARTiversary Features Art Events Galore

K11, a unique venue that integrates art into commerce, has established itself as an avid supporter of art since its inception in 2009. Unlike other shopping locations, K11 offers a creative platform for artists, designers and creative entrepreneurs to display their works.

http://www.themulia.com/en/special-offers-mulia-resortAs this year marks its 5thanniversary, K11 will host a grand celebration event “5th ARTiversary – In Art We Live” between 4 September and 5 October. Keen to promote local art, K11 will display inside the art mall the paintings and graphic design works of 11 students from a local secondary school, Hong Kong Baptist University, The Hong Kong Institute of Education and Hong Kong Art School through an “11 Local Students’ Encounters” project. Their works will showcase the three essential elements that distinguish the brand of K11, namely Art • People • Nature. Also, the local art groups PengguinKay Kwok and Stickyline will also display works especially designed to celebrate the 5th anniversary of K11 in the “5th ARTiversary Design Special” exhibition. Celebration art events also include “The Design Feisty거침없이 한국디자인, a multidisciplinary performance & exhibition held in Hong Kong for the first time, featuring the masterful works of renowned Korean artists such as Park Zinoo and Choi Dusu. There will also be a “More Than A Toy Exhibition”featuring the creations of well-known designers from Italy, Germany, America, Australia and Hong Kong. Jointly held with the Hong Kong Design Centre, Design Mart provides a venue for up-and-coming designers to showcase and market their creations. A series of workshops will also be held.

K11 Art Foundation (KAF) is committed to promoting art and design and nurturing creativity in Hong Kong by blending three essential elements that distinguish the brand of K11, namely Art • People • Nature, developing contemporary art with the mission of “In Art We Live”. “KAF strives to offer different forms of support to young artists and help them gain recognition. In our collaboration with the 11 students from local schools, we will showcase their art works in K11 Art Mall starting from September. The exhibition, which will be run for a significant period of time, will enable the public to appreciate art and culture expressed in different forms and to show their support for young artists.” said Mr. Adrian Cheng, Chairman of K11 Art Foundation and a true incubator of young artists, designers and students.

 

 

11 Local Students’ Encounters

Keen to promote local art and nurture young local artists by providing them with a creative platform to appreciate art and exhibit their works, K11 will present a long-running exhibition, “11 Local Students’ Encounters”, showcasing paintings and graphic design works by 11 students. Two of the students are graduates of the Academy of Visual Arts under the Hong Kong Baptist University, while other students are from Stewards Pooi Kei College, The Hong Kong Institute of Education and Hong Kong Art School. The works will be housed at different indoor and outdoor locations in K11 Art Mall, enabling the public to attain a better understanding of art.

 

The Design Feisty거침없이 한국디자인

Between 5 September and 12 October, the multidisciplinary art exhibition “The Design Feisty거침없이 한국디자인 will be held at K11, the 13 participating Korean artists are Choi Dusu, Lee Wan, Yoon Kalim, De-Bang and Hur Boree, etc. Most of the creations, which come in a wide array of styles, have been converted from furniture pieces or everyday items into highly creative, playful and even outlandish artworks. The creative group Gagu-Gasu, led by Park Zinoo and Jeon Jihan, will also present an innovative multimedia show on 4-5 September to celebrate K11’s 5th ARTiversary, whereby a 3.3-metre high, 6-metre wide artwork created with several pieces of furniture placed in K11 Piazza will be matched with singing performance, electronic music, lighting and smoke to create different visual and audio effects showcasing the merging of music and design.

 

More Than A Toy Exhibition

From 4 September to 25 September, the internationally renowned toy design brands Tokidoki (Italy), Coarse (Germany) , Stack and Scare (America), Nathan Jurevicius (Australia), Qee and NO2GOOD (Hong Kong) will present their designs in “More Than A Toy Exhibition” at K11. Visitors will be treated to more than 60 series of toys and figures, with styles ranging from classic to contemporary to playful. Some of the exhibits have never been displayed before and will definitely catch the eyes of toy fans.

 

“5th ARTiversary Design Special” Exhibition

K11 has always supported the development of local artists, and provide valuable opportunities for them to express some important messages through exhibitions. K11 specially invited 3 local art units that have been nurtured by KAF to create the “5th ARTiversary Design Special” Exhibition. They include Pengguin, Stickyline, and Kay Kwok, the first Hong Kong menswear designer who unveiled his work during London Fashion Week. The exhibition will showcase a series of creative art works to express their blessings to K11 at the mall’s showcases on G/F, L1 and L2.

 

Design Mart 2014 @ K11

Meanwhile, the widely popular Design Mart will return to K11 as Design Mart 2014@K11, to be co-organised by K11 and the Hong Kong Design Centre between 26 and 28 September. As a weekend design carnival, the event will provide an open platform for innovative entrepreneurs in Hong Kong to promote original designs. Designers, artists and young graduates specializing in art or design are welcome to take part and show their original design works to the public. There will also be a host of creative training courses to equip participants with business management skills and knowledge. The line-up of designers includes a variety of local brands such as BeCandle, Jungle In A Bottle, Wouf and Takon (POSTalk). On 28 September, BeCandle and Jungle In A Bottle will also host workshops to teach how to create candles of different shapes and a jungle in a bottle.

 

Ink Battle 2014

To mark its 5th ARTiversary, K11 will present Ink Battle 2014 on 27 September under the theme of “Carnival Rhapsody: 5th Movement”. It is not only a celebration event, but also a programme designed to encourage art lovers to make art via a free platform. Among the participants will be local art groups Brainrental and MOM AND POP, respectively founded by a group of young people with a passion for art and design. They will use different painting materials to create artworks and interact with each other. Members of the public can also get to vote for their favorite art piece and have a playful and artistic weekend.

 

Other promotions and activities

Other celebration initiatives includes a reward programme whereby customers can receive an exclusive set of 5 toy figures from the “More Than A Toy Exhibition” for making in-mall purchases. From 4 to 27 September, K11, together with a variety of beauty, body care, dining, jewellery and fashion brands will present special offers to customers; and during the 10.1 Golden Week from 28 September to 5 October, brands with a presence in the mall for the past 5 years will also offer special promotions. In addition, K11 will join forces with China Merchants Bank and Hang Seng Bank to present credit card shopping offers between 19 September and 19 October. During the period, K11 will also hold an auction in the Klub 11 Auction website. Meanwhile, the Klub 11 Art Academy will run workshops in September, on how to make five-tiered cakes and candles.
