Kakadu offers ‘million dollar’ fishing experience – $1 million NT Barra fishing competition launched
Tourism Northern Territory has launched a million dollar fishing competition, with anglers lured with the prospect of catching a Barramundi tagged with a $1 million prize on its head.
75 other Barramundis will be tagged with $10,000 prizes.
The competition will run from 1 October 2015 to 29 February 2016, and is valid only for those who register for the event at www.milliondollarfish.com.au before 31 August 2015.
The 76 Barramundi will be released in the Northern Territory’s prime fishing areas, with the Territory’s most famous fishing area – Kakadu – considered the ‘home of the Barra’.
Yellow Water Fishing operates from Cooinda, which also offers hotel accommodation (Cooinda Lodge) and caravan and camping grounds, making it an ideal base for anglers chasing the $1 million top prize.
The fishing tours last three hours and are perfect for both experienced and amateur anglers, who will fish this beautiful waterway with the guidance of an experienced fishing guide.
Guides provide all the fishing gear and will coach how to cast, retrieve and how to make a lure the most attractive to the Yellow Water Barramundi. Fishing is with lures only so there is no need for live or fresh bait. The boat has a casting deck, seating, partial shade, iced water, refresher towels and keen guides full of fishing stories.
Yellow Water Fishing also offers charter fishing tours for groups throughout the year, making it ideal for fishing clubs, groups of friends of families.
Even if anglers don’t hook a million dollar Barra – and if the fish is large enough – they have the option to have Cooinda’s chefs cook it up for dinner.
Yellow Water Fishing tours cost $150 per person the 3-hour cruise.
Special accommodation offer: Cooinda Lodge is offering a Stay & Save deal from 1 October 2015 through to 29 February 2016, with 20% off accommodation when visitors stay 2 nights or more. Terms & conditions apply.
