Kanchanaburi And The Legendary River Kwai

Backyard Travel, Asia’s most innovative tour company, have today released news of a new tour to the scenic rural region of Kanchanaburi, famous for lush green landscapes and the iconic ‘Death Railway Bridge’.
The scenic two-night, three-day trip whisks travelers away from Bangkok, first stopping at Samut Songkhram where they can visit the point at which the River Kwai joins the Gulf of Thailand. There they will discover the authentic floating market of Tha Kha as well as a unique local train market set over the tracks of an operation railway line that moves aside for every train that passes.

On arrival in Kanchanaburi, the tour treats travelers to a leisurely lunch on the riverside near to the iconic bridge on the legendary river. They will then take a stroll along the ‘Death Railway Bridge’ itself before visiting the JEATH War Museum to learn the history of the line and bridge.

Day two of the Kanchanaburi vacation gives travelers the option to pick between three different types of exploration. Travelers can choose either a canoe and bike ride, a walking tour to the Hellfire Pass Canyon or a visit to the beautiful seven-tier Erawan Waterfall located in Erawan National Park.

Regardless of which activity the traveler picks, afterwards they will then spend time learning the ways of a mahout who’ll demonstrate how they control their gentle giant elephants and assist with a bathing ritual – an exquisite way to become intimate with nature.

“Understandably, many travelers head straight for the beaches when they arrive in Thailand and often miss-out on some of Thailand’s most charming regions,” said Backyard Travel’s General Manager Maeve Nolan. “We hope this short excursion following the enthralling history of the region – especially the famous ‘Death Railway’ – will allow travelers to see a great example of the charms of rural Thailand.”
