Kenya Airways Beefs Up Customer Experience With Three Airside Transfer Buses

Kenya Airways has taken delivery of three airside transfer buses as part of its customer experience enhancement program.

The delivery of the three buses will help raise the airline’s guest comfort and convenience, particularly as the transfer distances between the airside and the new JKIA terminals continue to stretch beyond the previous 150M distance.

The ongoing expansion works at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and the opening of new aircraft parking bays have served to stretch the hitherto walking distances to a distance of more than 1.5Kms for international arrival passengers.

Speaking when he confirmed the delivery of the airside transfer buses, Kenya Airways, Managing Director, Dr. Titus Naikuni, explained that the buses will be used to ferry the airline’s departing and arriving guests.

By maintaining an own fleet of airside transfer buses, Kenya Airways, Naikuni said will be seeking to optimize its customer convenience and improving its on-time departures due to more timely aircraft boarding and disembarkation.

The buses, he added will be available for the exclusive use of Kenya Airways guests and its partners and will complement similar KQ units available at JKIA and others operated by the Kenya Airports Authority.

The airline, he added has also placed an order for two more airside transfer buses from COBUS, the market leader in Airport buses manufacturing to be delivered in the next four weeks. The arrival of the buses will push KQ’s airside transfer bus fleet to eleven as the airline already operates six such buses at JKIA.

Prior to the acquisition of the five  new airside buses, Kenya Airways guests have been suffering from inadvertent delays for their transfers to the terminals due to lack of adequate transfer buses.

“The expansion of JKIA has brought with it positive challenges which we are taking working hard to address including acquiring our own fleet of airside transfer buses to ease the plight of our arriving and departing guests,” he said.  “Guests on KQ will now be enjoying faster transfers to and from the airside now that we have received our own additional airside buses,” Naikuni affirmed.

In the ongoing customer experience enhancement programme, Kenya Airways has been actively moving to raise its customer service delivery standards at its Nairobi hub.

Alongside the new airside bus deliveries, plans are also at an advanced stage to introduce dedicated executive buses for SkyPriority guests at JKIA for the exclusive use of Kenya Airways and its Sky Team carriers’ network partners.

The two COBUS units to be received in coming weeks have a capacity of more than 100 passengers and feature ambient interiors and air conditioning system guaranteeing a rapid, flexible and comfortable passenger service, while considerably reducing the idle times of the aircraft.
