Skål International, the world’s largest travel and tourism organisation has chosen Mombasa as the location for its 2015 World Congress.

Mombasa was chosen for its magnificent bio-diversity as a premium tourist destination and its year-round tropical climate. There are a range of ideal locations along its pristine beaches for team building recreational activities and watersports. Mombasa is also known for its succulent fresh seafood, a vibrant buzzing nightlight and extremely helpful and courteous local people.

Delegates at this year’s World Congress held in New York voted overwhelmingly to stand with Kenya against global terrorism. The Organising Chairman of the Kenyan bid Mr. Tony Clegg-Butt in his presentation spoke of the recent tragic events in Kenya and how that the travel and tourism industry must not be cowed by terrorism, but rather must be united against it.

Skål International held its 2001 World Congress in the US one month after 9/11 and in Australia shortly after the 2002 Bali bombings.

“Kenya is a secure destination as are New York where we are today, London, Mumbai, Bali or any other place in our world where terrorism has reared its ugly head,” said Mr. Clegg-Butt.

“This is a wonderful victory for Kenya; it’s extremely comforting to know that despite the tragic events of Westgate that the world stands united with Kenya. We expect over 1,200 delegates to attend the 2015 congress which will be held over a five day period in November 2015,” said Julie Dabaly Scott, President of Skål International Kenya.

The “Association Internationale des Skål Clubs (A.I.S.C.)” was created on 28 April 1934 in the Hotel Scribe, today Skål International has approximately 20,000 members in 450 Clubs throughout 85 nations. Its annual World Congress hosted by a different country each year gives members first-hand observation of the travel and tourism potential around the world.
