A locally owned travel agency has made it to the nomination list of the 20th edition of the World Travel Awards. The little known Sagal Travel and Tours Agency, headquartered in Nairobi, has been nominated under “Kenya’s Leading Travel Agency” of the Year category.
Dubbed as the ‘Oscars of the Travel Industry’, the World Travel Awards recognise excellence in travel, tourism and hospitality.

Since getting IATA certified in 2007, Sagal Travel and Tours has been growing steadily to become one of the highest volume ticket sales annually in Kenya. This has been recognised by various awards given by airlines such as Ethiopian Airlines, Qatar Airways and Emirates Airlines.

Sagal Travel and Tours has been very proactive in servicing the needs of its customers by having charters to service the North Eastern Kenya region when other Travel companies have shied away, due to logistics. This same client driven attitude has led them to open offices in Kampala, Uganda; Hargeisa, Somaliland, Mogadishu in Somalia expanding regionally, recognizing the growth potential of Africa and East Africa as its travel hub.

“We are very excited and humbled about this nomination,” said Abdiqani Ali, the Managing Director of Sagal Travel and Tours. “We are humbled as ours is a small and young company nominated amongst industry giants both local and with international groupings. This was a pleasant surprise; and to get the nomination and the recognition for our efforts is very rewarding in itself. “
He added “Competing with International groupings has not been easy but we have shown that a small local company like ours can grow the ranks to provide world class travel service and connections throughout the world. This has lead to increase in employment for citizens, growth of their skills, recognition of Kenya as a travel hub”

A recent feather to Sagal Travel and Tours cap is its ability to service the Somali Government travel needs. Somalia is relatively stable and with all the international attention clamouring for investment opportunities, this region is poised to grow and Sagal Travel and Tours is ready for the “take-off.”

The winners are selected through global voting on the Travel Awards’ website
Voting for Kenya’s Leading Travel Agency is open until 25 August 2013.
The 2013 World Travel Awards Africa Ceremony will be held on 16 October in Nairobi, hosted by the Kenya Tourism Board.

Recognising the huge demand for travel with little supply within the Somali community, Sagal started chartering flights to Mandera once a week. This was so successful that today, Sagal charters flights to Mandera three times a week.
