The Kenya Tourism Board is pleased to announce that the Africa Gala Ceremony will take place in Nairobi, Kenya on October 16, 2013 as part of the World Travel Awards.

The event is being held as part of the world’s premier travel awards programme’s 20th Anniversary global tour. The annual awards recognise leading companies in the global travel, tourism and hospitality industry worldwide.

“The recent events in Nairobi were of course tragic, but postponing or cancelling our Gala Ceremony would not have helped the Government or the people of Kenya, for whom tourism forms a vital part of the country’s economy. There has not been a single company who has been invited to attend the event cancel and we feel quite proud that the travel industry is showing solidarity to the Kenya Tourism Board,” said Graham Cooke, Founder and President of World Travel Awards.

The Kenya Government has assured delegates that there will be increased security measures from the airport through transfers and at the hotel venue where the gala will be held.

Delegates attending the Gala Ceremony will be immersed in true African culture and spirit and the warmth and hospitality of the Kenyan people.

The Gala Ceremony will follow two successful events recently hosted in Kenya – The Eco-Tourism and Sustainable Tourism Conference (ESTC 2013) and the Africa Hotels Investment Forum (AHIF 2013).

The global endorsement of Kenya as an event destination was further enhanced by its recent win to host the 2015 Skål International World Congress in Mombasa.

“We are glad that the government has reassured all visitors into the country that they will be safe and will continue to enjoy unique experiences in magical Kenya,” said Muriithi Ndegwa, Managing Director, Kenya Tourism Board.

There are a number of unique experiences taking place in Kenya later this year which include the hybrid solar eclipse on November 3 with the best viewing at the Sibiloi National Park, Turkana in Northern Kenya.

The Kenya Tourism Board will also host its 3rd edition of the Magical Kenya Travel Expo (MKTE), from October 18-20 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre. The MKTE will bring together over 120 hosted buyers from 30 different countries for tourism networking and business meetings as well as the opportunity to experience tourist attractions in various parts of the country.

Located astride the equator on the eastern coast of Africa, Kenya offers its visitors tremendous topographical diversity, including glaciated mountains with snow-capped peaks, the Rift Valley with its scarps and volcanoes, ancient granitic hills, flat desert landscapes and coral reefs and islets.
