Kenya Tourism Board hosts over 170 travel trade representatives from across 36 countries

unnamed (8)The Kenya Tourist Board has said “Jambo”’ to over 170 trade representatives, as part of the 2014 Magical Kenya Travel Expo (MKTE), held in Nairobi from 8 to 10 October.

In its fourth year, MKTE continues to provide a solid platform for the destination, on which to spark and enhance tourism opportunities between local industry partners and key buyers.

The Expo was officially opened yesterday by the Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of East African Affairs, Commerce and Tourism Mrs Phyllis Kandie.

During the three days, over 100 exhibitors will collaborate together educating attendees from 36 countries, including Australia, on just why Kenya is regarded as the world’s premier safari destination.

Security was a hot topic with Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) managing director, Muriithi Ndegwa addressing the issues the destination has faced in recent times and the various measures the sector is taking to combat this. 

“We want to assure you and your clients that Kenya is safe and open for business,” he said. 

“The safety of all our guests remains of upmost importance and KTB along with all other associated bodies continues to devise and implement various strategies to ensure this.

“The arrival of these key tour operators is yet another strong sign that it is business as usual in Kenya,” Mr Muriithi said. 

The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) also showed its long-standing support for the destination with senior officials in attendance. 

UNWTO Africa Director Ms Elsia Grandcourt expressed optimism in the resilience of Kenya’s tourism product, acknowledging the sectors importance in the country’s development and supporting the livelihoods of many. 

“We are behind you, you can count on the UNWTOs support and the international community as Kenya is an important destination and a holiday choice for many,” she said.

The expo was followed by various famil itineraries, which enabled key buyers to experience Kenya’s mix of rich tourism product offering first-hand.
