Ninth edition of Kerala Travel Mart (KTM) began on Tuesday in Kochi, India, with record number of 1800 buyers from 57 countries coming to interact with 265 sellers of variety products in Kerala.Abraham George said “We have grown 300 percent from 72 buyers in our launch mart in 2000, ‘Many of 565 international sellers are from new markets.”
The three day biennial travel mart is the largest in India with a single product focus of Kerala. The theme this year is Muziris Heritage and Spice Routes. Kerala has been the spice capital, exporting spices to the world since ancient times and also rich in art and culture.
Dr Venu is Principle Secretary, Dr Venu said “KTM is completely owned by the trade and the government is only a supporter. Kerala is reinventing and adding new, authentic experiences. Kochi Muziris is a three month art event that will be held from 12 December to 29 March.”
Kerala Tourism had organized a culinary festival from 23 to 26 September by inviting 16 international chefs.
Kerala received 1.25 million international visitors with a revenue of a billion USD in 2015. This was 5.6 percent growth in arrivals and 8.61 percent in revenue over the previous year.
