Can’t wait for the big thaw to come?

Kick start summer with a spring break in the Whitsundays and Hamilton Island.

Feeling a bit over winter and can’t wait to feel a warm breeze on your arms? Spring in the Whitsundays on Hamilton Island is the most perfect time of year for island life. Not only do you step off the plane and into shorts and t-shirts, already feeling kilo’s lighter in the process, you get to soak up Australia’s world-class tropical island lifestyle at its best. Not to put too fine a point on it, spring temperatures average:

  • September: Min 20, Max 26
  • October: Min 22, Max 28
  • November: Min 23, Max 29

Add to this the azure blue Coral Sea waters, textbook white sandy beaches and an island-dotted horizon viewpoint from the deck or balcony of your open apartment and you begin to get the picture. We may be biased, we’re fortunate to live here year-round, but any local will tell you that spring is a favourite time of the year.

Plan ahead

This November three major sporting events are on the cards and anticipation is high for these keenly fought battles. In its third year the Hamilton Island Amateur Golf Championship has thrived since running simultaneously with the PGA Professionals Championship. Golfers and enthusiasts are advised to book early. Golfing spectators too, it doesn’t get any more special or scenic than this.

Celebrating the active life and classic tropical island backdrops of the Whitsundays, the Fujifilm Hamilton Island Triathlon and Whitehaven Beach Ocean Swim has something for everyone. The Triathlon event is held over a magnificent course and attracts some of Australia’s best elite athletes. There’s also a junior triathlon and the Splash n Dash run and swim for under 15’s. The Dent Dash is more of a fun Sunday walk or run along the scenic buggy paths of Dent Island.

But really, that’s just the tip of the rainforest-clad mountain of activities, global scale attractions and island hopping cruises and things to do and see that will take your spring break to another level of unforgettable or a family school holidays break to the most stress-free and fun time you can have together.
