image002Kid’s Ocean Day is back for its fourth year in Hong Kong and is calling all volunteers to join them in creating ‘human art’ on Repulse Bay Beach to raise awareness about protecting the ocean. On Thursday, 3 November, students, teachers and volunteers will team up to help form an image based on the winning art work of the initiative’s School’s Ocean Protection Drawing Competition.

Volunteers are encouraged to register in advance here to get involved in the educationally interactive, meaningful and rewarding day. Registration is open to everyone (above 7 years of age) and ends 2 November. Those aged 15 or older are welcome to volunteer with set up on the day of the event and the day before. Further details of event times can be found below.

“Last year’s successful event saw over 900 Hong Kong students and teachers form a giant reef fish, spreading the message around the world to stop the consumption of reef fish and protect the earth’s coral reefs. This year, we hope to make as big an impact, engaging Hong Kong’s young community as ocean ambassadors to educate and remind others to keep our ocean clean by not littering in the sea or in storm drains which lead directly to the ocean.” says said Doug Woodring, Event Organiser and Founder of Ocean Recovery Alliance.

Watch a clip from last year’s event here to see how the impressive ‘human art’ piece using more than 1000 participants unfolds.
