Hotel Van Zandt, Kimpton’s first hotel in Austin, has opened its doors just in time for the holidays. The hotel is primed to be an authentic gateway to Austin’s renowned Historic Rainey Street District and serve as the new “home sweet home” for those wishing to explore the culture driving one of the nation’s most vibrant cities. Hotel Van Zandt is Kimpton’s newest addition and is a product of Austin-based real estate developer JMI Realty.
To celebrate the opening, Hotel Van Zandt is offering guests an enticing “Sneak Peek” rate. Through February, guests can book a night for 25% off Best Available Rate or 30% off Best Available Rate for stays two nights or longer, pending availability.
Hotel Van Zandt will feature 319 rooms, 41 suites and a spectacular fourth-floor outdoor terrace complete with cabanas, pool and a bar overlooking Lady Bird Lake and downtown Austin. The hotel’s design will showcase one-of-a-kind Texas accents, antiques and décor by Mark Zeff who has conceptualized some of the world’s top boutique hotels and restaurants. Zeff and his design team worked diligently to harness the essence of Texas culture – which he describes as more than just “urban cowboys,” but rather a culture with “a great history of elegance and Texas gentry.” The property is highly stylized with classic and high-quality materials such as imported Italian wood, bronze aand local artwork to pay homage to Austin’s music embracing culture.
The Hotel Van Zandt is not only a must-visit destination for out of town guests, it also offers plenty of charming and delicious reasons to be considered a new local hotspot. The signature restaurant, Geraldine’s, will yield a truly Texas-inspired menu along with specialty drinks and experiences. The establishment will also double as an entertainment venue where guests can catch the hottest up-and-coming acts covering a wide variety of entertainment genres, from indie singers and bands to more established names and even comedians. On the ground level, Café 605 will add a fresh new alternative for those around and about Rainey Street with grab-and-go food such as breakfast tacos, local music and swag such as HVZ inspired t-shirts and posters for purchase.
The hotel’s name is loosely drawn from its historic Texas muse, Isaac Van Zandt, The Republic of Texas Ambassador to the U.S., as well as his third great-grandson, Townes Van Zandt, who left his mark on Texas music history with emotionally-charged songs that have inspired generations of musicians. Townes Van Zandt’s son, JT Van Zandt, has created a series of stunning original artwork which pays tribute to his father and is located on the second floor of the hotel. Hotel Van Zandt is designed to deliver a refined riff on Austin’s world-famous music, entertainment and arts scene to complement Kimpton’s distinctive brand values and offerings.
“We are excited to share our fun-spirited service and Texas Hill Country inspired design with the Austin community and our guests,” said Joe Pagone, General Manager of Hotel Van Zandt. “We believe that when people step into Hotel Van Zandt they will feel at home while at the same time getting a true Austin experience.”
Other unique spaces within the hotel include the chic and spacious living room and lobby, replete with lighting fixtures inspired by musical instruments and tucked away nooks waiting to be discovered. Hotel Van Zandt will become the Austin music aficionado’s “go-to” with insider knowledge via Lauren Bucherie, the hotel’s Director of Music and Social Programming. Bucherie will help guests and locals connect with the Austin music scene’s best happenings and bring Austin’s funky vibe throughout the hotel. The Van Zandt also will feature 12,000 square feet of stylish event and meeting space, capable of accommodating up to 500 people, which is perfect for weddings and events.
