egtmedia59Visitors to Turkey face uncertainty following the attempted coup there and an order by the US Government banning flights from Turkey from entering US airspace – but Qantas has made the going easy for customers holding a valid ticket who are affected by the coup attempt.

“All airline carriers, regardless of country of registry, are prohibited from flying into the United States from Turkey either directly or via third country,” the US Embassy in Ankara stated.

Delta, the most recent US carrier to consider flying to Istanbul, suspended its planned service, which had been due to start in May. The airline will now be in no doubt that it made the right decision.

Meanwhile, Qantas has confirmed that Qantas customers holding a valid Qantas (081) issued ticket (issued on/before 16 July 2016) who are affected by the attempted military coup in Istanbul for travel to/from Istanbul, Turkey on/after 16 July and on/before 22 July 2016, may without fee, rebook travel to/from Istanbul (IST).

They can switch to using an alternate Qantas service with a ‘QF’ flight number operated by Qantas or Emirates or Emirates service with ‘EK’ flight number operated by Emirates or Qantas.

Alternatively, the value of the existing ticket can be used towards the purchase of a new ticket or they can also retain the value of the ticket in credit. For full details, click here.

Qantas has taken a similarly understanding stance on passengers booked to Nice (NCE) in the South of France, site of a terrorist atrocity last Thursday.
Those passengers may, without fee, rebook travel to/from NCE using an alternate Qantas service with a ‘QF’ flight number operated by Qantas or Emirates or Emirates service with ‘EK’ flight number operated by Emirates or Qantas.

They can also reroute travel to/from AMS/BRU/CDG/DUS/FCO/FRA/GVA/HAM/LYS/MUC/MXP/ZRH (no additional collection) – using an alternate Qantas service with a ‘QF’ flight number operated Emirates or Emirates service with ‘EK’ flight number operated by Emirates.
