Kiwi wine flying high with Emirates

August 17, 2015 Aviation No Comments Email Email

Flying business class with Emirates and want to savour a glass of Savvy? You will be served a glass of Hãhã 2013 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Emirates select world-class wines to complement the flavours of their gourmet meals, and as the only Kiwi wine in business class, and the only Sauvignon Blanc, we reckon Emirates selected a prime example of our flagship wine. With 24,000 bottles for business class travellers to enjoy, it is great exposure for the growing Hãhã brand.

Hãhã is a Maori word which means savoury and luscious. Our wines are a toast to the full-flavoured goodness of Aotearoa, New Zealand: grown with love, created with confidence and selected with passion.

Hãhã is the flagship brand of Fern Ridge Wines Ltd, a local wine producer based in Havelock North. 100% New Zealand owned and operated, the first vintages of Hãhã wines were released in 2011. Starting with just over 15,000 cases of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and Marlborough Pinot Noir, in 2015 we will bottle nearly 60,000 cases over six varieties. Our collection now includes a Marlborough Chardonnay, Hawke’s Bay Pinot Gris, and Hawke’s Bay Merlot, topped off by a Marlborough Reserve Pinot Noir.

All our wines are certified as 100% sustainable by Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand. A third of our wine is sold domestically via leading liquor retailers, with two thirds exported to 25 countries around the world. The Netherlands is one of our biggest export markets, and users of the Vivino wine app there recently voted our Sauvignon Blanc as the number 1 Best Wine under €15. Our Savvy was also poured on board Air New Zealand over the 2014/15 holiday period.

Hãhã wines are premium wines crafted for exceptional value. We understand that being passionate about wine doesn’t come hand in hand with expensive tastes. We believe that wine lovers should have their desires satisfied in a way that’s also affordable. Simply speaking, wine tasting is about five things: what you see, swirl, sniff, sip and savour. With Hãhã wines, we concentrate our efforts on the first four so you can savour each glass.

Our wines are recognised for being great quality at a great price, and we receive enthusiastic reviews from wine experts. This year our Sauvignon Blanc won a Gold medal at the Royal Easter Show Wine Awards, along with Silvers for our Pinot Gris and Merlot, and Bronze for our Pinot Noir. Our Reserve Pinot Noir won a Gold medal at the Spiegelau International Wine Competition judged last month, placing in the top 5% of wines. Cuisine magazine chose our Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir as Best Buys in their varietal tastings. Winestate, the number one wine magazine in Australia, recommended the last two vintages of our Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir as being in the Top 40 Best Value Buys in Australia and New Zealand, and our new Merlot and Pinot Gris have been added to this list.

With new opportunities and export markets opening up, solid growth is projected for sales of our wine over the next five years. And with brand exposure via stockists such as Emirates, the future for Hãhã wines is bright.
