KLMKLM Royal Dutch Airlines invites New Yorkers to explore the excitement of a KLM onboard experience while engaging with the best of the Dutch lifestyle at its first-ever Pop Up Shop in downtown Manhattan. From Thursday, June 25 through Saturday, June 27, the public is invited to stop by Open House Gallery located at 201 Mulberry Street to be transported into a world of interactive airline fun complete with activations and giveaways. The Pop Up Shop opens each day at 11:00 a.m., capping off with a free Heineken happy hour and live DJ set beginning at 5:00 p.m.

Visitors will have many chances to win KLM-branded goodies and round-trip tickets to Amsterdam through raffles and other activities including a cycle for (Flying Blue) miles contest, and interactive photo booth contest.  Each day, visitors to this family-friendly space will also be treated to a “waffle happy hour” from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., featuring free Dutch coffee and stroopwafels for every guest mirroring KLM’s onboard offerings. The KLM Pop Up Shop will also feature a special, interactive experience each day, such as a DJ music booth, a live painting and screen-printing by Dutch artist Merijn Hos, and a stroopwafel cooking demo by Eat Dutch Waffles.

“The KLM Pop Up Shop will allow guests to experience the inspiration of a KLM journey without ever having to leave Manhattan,” said Marnix Fruitema, Senior Vice President, Air France-KLM North America. “At this event, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will showcase its place of origin: Holland (“The Original Cool”), share the fun, caring values of the brand, and celebrate the many innovative aspects of Dutch culture through interactive experiences.”

Celebrated Dutch Artists

The Netherlands is home to a plethora of acclaimed artists including Vincent van Gogh and Willem de Kooning. To depict this wonderful aspect of the culture, KLM brings to its Pop Up Shop a four-hour live art installation created by Dutch artist Merjin Hos. Visitors will see the artist in action as he creates KLM-inspired illustrations and can also leave the Pop Up Shop with one of these illustrations on a poster each day.

Dutch DJ’s

In popular culture, the Netherlands is known for its famous DJs including Tiesto, Afrojack and Armin van Buuren. And in the last few years, KLM has been the official carrier of the World’s Best DJs including sponsorships of Hardwell’s world tour this year and the Sensation Music Festival in Amsterdam. To showcase KLM’s strong connection to electronic music, visitors can listen to various records from Dutch DJs and artists in a private listening booth. And for a special treat, every day at 5:00 p.m., the Pop Up Shop will transform into a music scene showcasing iconic beats with a set from Dutch DJs Regino and Aleppo at the Heineken Happy Hour. Heineken, which is made in Holland and served aboard KLM flights, will provide free beer for guests to enjoy in the space. The event will culminate in a special happy hour giveaway on Saturday night featuring a travel package with round-trip airfare for two from JFK to Amsterdam on KLM, hotel accommodations, and tickets to Sensation, the World’s Leading Dance Event, on July 4th.

KLM World Business Class

Those who prefer a quieter experience can relax in the lounge area, where they can enjoy views of the new KLM World Business Class full-flat seat display and experience touches and textiles from the new cabin. With a minimalist and modern design, the lounge area will have a hanging art installation and be adorned with KLM’s World Business Class pillows, created by Dutch industrial designer Hella Jongerius. In 2013, Jongerius reconceived the interior of KLM’s World Business Class cabin and Economy cabin to create an inviting space where passengers are made to feel at home.

Bluey and Jets

The event will also have a kids section with entertainment and refreshments for the little ones inspired by KLM’s unofficial mascot and latest production “Bluey the Movie.” On Friday, June 26, KLM’s Kiddie Korner will host special activities including paper airplane making tutorials, airplane balloon modeling and face painting. Children can also play KLM’s mobile game, Jets, at the Kiddy Korner. Jets is a mobile game in which kids can lead a paper plane safely through an obstacle-ridden cardboard world.
