On May 25, Korean Air donated bicycles to underprivileged students at three elementary and middle schools in Da Bac, Vietnam. Da Bac District, located 107 kilometers west of Hanoi, Vietnam, is one of the most underprivileged regions of Hoa Binh Province.

Employees from the Korean Air Hanoi office visited Tan Minh elementary school, one of the three schools that received the bicycles. Korean Air donated a total of 65 bicycles, which will be used by the students to commute to school. As the schools are located in mountainous areas, students do not have access to public transportation, which means many students walk 5 to 7 kilometers every morning to school.

“We are very happy to make this contribution,” said Dongmin Lee, Regional Manager of Korean Air Hanoi. “We hope that the bicycles will make it easier for students to commute to school every day, and help them chase their dreams.

This is Korean Air’s second donation of bicycles to schools in Vietnam. In May 2018, Korean Air donated 50 bicycles to schools in Ninh Binh Province, Yen Khanh District, region located 110km south of Hanoi.

Vietnam is a special place for Korean Air, as the airline operated its first international flight to Vietnam since its privatization in 1969. Korean Air engages in various efforts to improve relations between Korea and Vietnam. In April, Korean Air flew selected Vietnamese families from Korea to Ho Chi Minh City, the first international route operated by Korean Air. The airline has been sponsoring flight tickets for the Vietnam national football coach Park Hang-seo through its “Excellence Program” since January 2019. Korean Air currently operates flights from Incheon to Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi 21 times a week, and flights to Da Nang and Nha Trang 14 and 7 times a week respectively.
