Korean Air’s volunteer group flew to Sri Lanka on December 17 to perform volunteer work for the underprivileged local community in the suburbs of Colombo. The area was severely damaged by the heavy floods in 2017 and is still prone to floods.
The volunteers started rebuilding the neighborhood by repairing damaged homes and they finished their work on December 24. The flight attendants in the group also spent time with local children by playing traditional Korean games, as well as face painting and balloon games. Expenses for the volunteer work were paid by Korean Air’s company fund and donations from members from the volunteer groups.
Korean Air volunteer groups have contributed to the underprivileged communities in Indonesia and Cambodia this year. The airline also helped to build homes in typhoon-struck Bicol, Philippines.
Currently, Korean Air has a total of 25 volunteer groups actively helping with projects and community programs at orphanages, rehabilitation centers for the disabled, as well as senior care centers to support disadvantaged groups.
As a leading global carrier, Korean Air will continuously support global volunteer activities in order to perform its corporate social responsibility as part of the company’s initiatives to give back to the society.
