Korean Street Food Concept, Bib n Hops, by Alvin Leung Comes to Hong Kong

image001-1The Liberty Group and the “Demon Chef”, Alvin Leung from the three Michelin starred Bo Innovation, have joined forces to launch a new Korean street concept, Bib n HopsThe restaurant is poised to open in October2016 at J Senses, on bustling Ship Street in Wanchai. With an innovative Korean menu, edgy decor, and lively atmosphere, Bib n Hops will be a spirited and energetic destination perfect for a hearty lunch, post-work happy hour, or an evening of socialising.

“Bib n Hops” is a play on the Korean dish “bibimbap”. The hops refers to the ingredient used in brewing beer and bib is what customers may wear as they gorge on the mouthwatering dishes. The menu is designed by “Demon Chef” Alvin Leung, and executed by Korean Head Chef, Yong Soo Do, previously the Senior Sous Chef of Jinjuu and Head Chef of U-Hang.

Bib n Hops will offer interesting and inventive interpretations of Korean street-style cuisine. The innovative menu showcases contemporary Korean street-style fare and an enthralling mix of Korean beer and trendy soju cocktails. With a tantalising combination of quintessential Korean gourmet and a modern yet rustic-industrial ambience, Bib n Hops is destined to become a rendezvous for the hip and young.

“Korean style eating is about rubbing shoulders with locals around stalls or under cozy pojangmacha tents while sipping soju. The streets of Seoul are lined with tented vendor carts selling a variety of dishes intended to be eaten on the go. Sampling these dishes is a great way to explore the culinary world of Korea. The launch of Bib n Hops will add a unique dining experience to trendy Ship Street, attracting the hip crowd of Hong Kong as well as tourists,” said Chef Alvin Leung.


Much-loved Korean dishes such as Yukhoe – Korean Steak Tartare (HK$168), Vongole Japchae (HK$188), various flavours of bibimbap including Peruvian Spiced Pork Belly (HK $168) and SIngaporean Soft Shell Crab (HK$188), Cheese Nakji – Stir-fried Spicy Squid with Mozzarella Fondue (HK$258) and more. Guests can also choose from a fine selection of premium meats and fish to be roasted to perfection on the charcoal grill, served with fresh lettuce wraps and Korean condiments, with prices ranging between HK$148 to HK$388.

“In South Korea, you are never far from delicious street eats to satisfy a craving. Skewers of tangy chargrilled chicken, seafood pancakes with a burst of kimchi, and golden fish-shaped waffles with a sweet surprise filling can even make for a full meal! This is especially true for the young and restless crowd who much prefer the creativity and spontaneity of street-inspired cuisine,” said Chef Yong.

Diners can enjoy their food and drinks in a lively and stimulating environment of 1,500 square feet accommodating 75 seats, either in the Bib n Hops indoor dining room or at the outdoor patio. The warm, modern design can be considered as ‘sophisticated-industrial’ and makes use of rustic finishes such as natural and rusted metals, woods, and brick while the painted abstract graffiti art pulls in an urban vibe. The decor creates a trendy, social and comfortable atmosphere.

Bib n Hops is located at Shop 13, 2/F, J Residence, Ship Street, Wanchai, Hong Kong. It opens from Monday to Saturday from12:00 noon to 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.; and on Sundays and Public Holidays from 6:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m..
