La Digue Island (Seychelles) Says It Is Ready To Receive Its 15th August Celebrations

Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture was last week on the island of La Digue accompanied by Benjamine Rose, the PS for Culture to meet the La Digue Island Committee responsible for the annual 15th August Religious Celebrations that is today one of the most popular events appearing on the list of National Events.

This was the third meeting organised between the Ministry and the La Digue Organisers. PS Benjamine Rose had but days before met with the La Digue Committee accompanied by Jimmy Savy, the CEO of the National Arts Council (NAC), Rev Fr. Francis of the island and representatives of different entertainment groups. This was followed by a meeting between Minister St.Ange, PS Rose and Hon Chantal Guislain, the MNA of La Digue and now a final meeting to confirm all the main activities for this year’s La Digue Feast.

Minister Alain St.Ange that the Committee looking at the island’s annual 15th August Feast says that they are now ready to welcome the thousands who will again travel to the island this year. The Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) will again be broadcasting live from La Passe with their Road Show and the tent from which they will be broadcasting is already on the island and set up by the Port Office Building. Minister St.Ange said that on behalf of La Digue he has said thank you to Johnny Souris and all at SBC. “We want to thank everyone on the island for their assistance offered to the SBC Team. The Team at SBC is joining the La Digue celebrations to help make it the success the Diguois expect it to be” the Minister said.

Hotels and Guest Houses are already all fully booked and many Diguois are now opening their homes to friends and relatives for this 15th August which this falls on a Saturday making for a long weekend of activities. It is expected that more rotations of ferries from both Praslin and Mahe would be scheduled to satisfy the large number of people expected to travel to La Digue.

A full program of activities will now be published soon. Minister Alain St.Ange and PS Benjamine Rose said as they left La Digue that they wanted to say thank you to the La Digue Island Committee for their work and for the commitment for La Digue and for the Diguois Community.
