Labour Day long weekend outperforms British & Irish Lions records set for Sydney hotels

Accor hotels in Sydney CBD have recorded a record breaking long weekend which saw occupancy and revpar rates at all time highs.

Over the bumper Labour Day weekend, Accor’s Sydney CBD hotels (which include hotels from the Pullman, Sebel, Novotel, Mercure, ibis and MGallery portfolios) were at a record 99% occupancy. The average occupancy rates for hotels in Sydney CBD was 98.9% with an average rate of $310 – which represented a 41% increase from the same Saturday in 2012 and a 27% increase on the same long weekend from 2012 – making it the strongest performing revpar day on record for the Sydney CBD market outside of New Year’s Eve.

The British & Irish Lions tour in July 2013 broke all records for Accor’s Sydney hotels. However, the Labour Day long weekend in NSW which saw the Fleet Review, NRL Grand Final and One Direction concert come to town, saw performance 15% higher than what was experienced on 6 July 2013 for the Lions vs Wallabies third game.

General Manager for Accor hotels in NSW , Scott Boyes, said occupancy levels for the long weekend exceeded expectations and that Accor’s hotels across the board had recorded record figures.

“We were forecasting occupancy levels to sit around the 94% mark going into the weekend, but with a surge in last minute bookings our average occupancy levels across 14 CBD hotels sat at a record breaking 99%. With average rates for the Saturday night sitting at close to $300, it presented a huge windfall for our hotels and one which will carry them through for a bumper October.

“The fantastic work of Destination NSW and the State Government in continually bringing world class events to the state of NSW is having a significant impact on the local economy and makes Sydney a great place to live, and visit. We’re looking forward to rounding off 2013 with similar results as we head into V8 Supercars Sydney 500, Christmas, The Ashes, Sydney to Hobart and New Year celebrations”.
