Larry Ellison plans to build huge tennis academy on Lanai

egtmedia59Oracle Corp. CEO and Lanai majority owner Larry Ellison is bringing his love of tennis to the Pineapple Isle with plans to build a 50-acre tennis academy in town, Pacific Business News has learned.

It should come as no surprise that Ellison, a tennis player and owner of the BNP Paribas Open, would want to develop some type of tennis presence on the island.

Maybe this means he will be spending more time on the island? On a recent visit to Lanai, only a few in the community told me that they actually had met him or even seen him around the island.

Instead, when he is around, they say that he appears to spend most of his time on his multimillion-dollar yacht that’s anchored in a harbor.

But with a huge tennis academy in the works, Ellison, who was quoted in a Los Angeles Times article saying that he plays tennis five days a week and loves it, the community might be able to count on seeing him more.

And don’t be surprised to see one of his other loves, yacht racing, featured prominently in the waters off Lanai.

Last August, PBN first reported that Ellison wants to turn one of the harbors on Lanai into a world-class yacht harbor.
