Couples can save $6328 on cruise packages to the world-renowned, wildlife-rich Galapagos Islands this April and May, thanks to a last-minute special from Contours Travel – Australia’s longest-running travel specialist for Latin America.

A remote and special destination that few Australians get to visit, the Galapagos Islands were made famous in 1835 by naturalist, Charles Darwin, who visited the archipelago as part of a five-year voyage which led to his iconic study ‘The Origin of Species’. Today, the islands boast more than 26 species found nowhere else on earth, including marine iguanas, flightless cormorants and the giant Galapagos tortoises – the largest in the world, with some measuring more than 1.5m in length. Much of the wildlife, including flamingos, owls and Darwin’s finches are known for their tranquility, enabling travellers to snap some great photos.

The last-minute offer represents a saving of more than 25 per cent and includes free, return flights to the Galapagos from mainland Ecuador and free Galapagos National Park entrance fee.

The seven-night cruise will begin on the island of San Cristobal, where guests will board the M/V Evolution, a 32-guest expedition yacht with spacious staterooms, inside and outside dining, entertainment centre, library, and comfortable accommodation. Highlights of the seven-night cruise include amazing, up-close animal encounters with the exotic Galapagos creatures, sandy beaches, crystal-clear caves, a submerged volcano and the opportunity to snorkel alongside tropical fish, sea lions, sea turtles and penguins.

Other highlights include the Charles Darwin Research Centre, Kicker Rock- a spectacular formation which rises 152m out of the Pacific and Post Office Bay, where in 1793 British whalers set up a barrel as the island’s post office to send letters home on passing ships.

The last-minute discounted package is available until sold out and costs from $6650 per person, twin-share, including seven nights’ accommodation, all meals as per the itinerary, non-alcoholic beverages, an English-speaking guide, return flights to the Galapagos from Quito or Guayaquil and the use of snorkelling gear, wetsuits and kayaks. Flights from Australia are extra.

The offer is valid for the following departures: April 6, April 20 and May 4, 2019.
