LATAM to showcase films nominated for the 2018 Oscars

In the coming months, LATAM Airlines will showcase as part of its in-flight entertainment the nine films nominated for ‘Best Film’ in the 90th edition of the Academy Awards, which takes place on 04March in Los Angeles, United States.

“At LATAM, we continue to offer our passengers the leading in-flight entertainment in the region. We understand that we can make a great difference to our passengers’ travel experience with a wide variety of quality content and that’s why we’re committed to providing a unique offering that is updated on a monthly basis and features some of the most critically acclaimed movies,”says Sergio Lazzeri, Travel Experience Manager, LATAM Airlines Group.

Over the coming months, LATAM passengers will be able to enjoy the nine films that have been nominated for ‘Best Film’ at the 2018 Oscars® as part of its in-flight entertainment on international flights. In addition, a selection of the nominated films will be available via the LATAM Entertainment app.

  • ‘The Shape of Water’, with 13 Oscar® nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Lead Actress and Best Original Screenplay, will be available onboard from March until August. This film is a mystical fairy tale set in the United States during the Cold War era, where filmmaker Guillermo del Toro portrays a love story as impossible as magic.
  • ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’ is one of the favourites at this year’s Oscars® with seven nominations including Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Original Screenplay. It is a black humour drama that tells the story of a woman and the unsolved murder of her daughter.
  • ‘Dunkirk’, with eight nominations, this film by Christopher Nolan that tells the distressing experience of British and French troops when surrounded by the advance of the German army during the Second World War.
  • ‘Call me by your name’ The surprise of the 2018 Oscars®, this film – based on a novel by the same name – tells the love story of Elio and Oliver in an Italian town during a summer in the 1980s.
  • ‘The Post’, is directed by Steven Spielberg and stars Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks as newspaper editors. Both protagonists battle the United States government and together they must decide about publishing a story about the Vietnam war that would change what Americans believed about the conflict.
  • ‘Lady Bird’, with five nominations and directed by the young actress and debutante director Greta Gerwing, who narrates the deepening humour and drama of the turbulent relationship between a mother and her teenage daughter.
  • ‘Get Out’. A horror film that satirizes and criticizes racism in the United States. It all starts when an African American photographer visits the home of his white girlfriend’s family and what starts as a quiet weekend ends up taking an unexpected turn.
  • ‘Phantom thread’. Set in London during the 1950s, it tells the story of a designer in charge of creating dresses for high society and the royal family.
  • ‘Darkest hour’. An in-depth look at the life of Winston Churchill, who a few days after becoming Prime Minister has to make an important decision: fight against Hitler or accept the peace agreement that he is offered to sign.

LATAM in-flight entertainment

The Oscar®-nominated films will be available on all LATAM long-haul aircraft with seat-back entertainment (Boeing 787, 767, 777 and Airbus A350), both in the Economy and Premium Business cabins.

‘The Shape of Water’, ‘Dunkirk’, ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’ and ‘The Greatest Showman’ will also be available via the LATAM Entertainment app, which can be downloaded at no cost onto mobile phones, tablets or computers and enables users to enjoy a wide range of content using their personal devices on domestic and regional flights in Latin America.
