The latest National Visitor Survey figures for the December 2014 quarter released last week reveal great news for Noosa.

Tourism Noosa CEO Damien Massingham said that the results showed an increase in interstate visitor numbers and spend in Noosa which was fantastic news and reflects Tourism Noosa’s strategy to boost visitors and spend from these markets.

“These latest interstate visitor numbers for Noosa are up 26.6% to 285 000 as compared to the overall Sunshine Coast region up 15.7%. The balance of the Sunshine Coast other than Noosa recorded only 9.48% meaning that Noosa’s significant growth has boosted the overall Sunshine Coast results”.469667_num1057414_600x600

“Even more pleasing is that Noosa’s 26.6% growth in interstate visitation was against a growth of only 2.3% for the whole of Queensland” Mr Massingham said.

“Whilst visitor numbers are up, importantly the total domestic visitor spend is also up to $585 million with significant growth from the Sydney market”.

“Our winter campaign expanded into Sydney this year and it is evident that this has delivered results with Sydney numbers, nights and spend significantly up on the previous year. Sydney overnight visitor numbers are up 4.8% to 86 000 visitors, which is the strongest result since 2010, and visitor nights are up 20.7% to 565 000 with spend surging 14.9% to  $135.3 million”.

“Spend is important to track because whilst it is great to have increased visitor numbers to the destination, it is important that they are spending whilst in the region. Tourism Noosa’s strategy has been to focus on high value visitors who are more likely to spend across the economy, in our restaurants, with tour operators, in retail as well as accommodation”.

“The interstate visitor to Noosa is traditionally a higher value market and therefore Tourism Noosa has had increased campaigns and activity to these markets recently which these latest figures show are producing dividends for the Noosa tourism industry and community” Mr Massingham said.

“Our marketing campaign activity across digital, print and social media provides a constant presence in the interstate markets to ensure Noosa remains top of mind at all times. Tourism Noosa’s sponsorship of 19 events spread throughout the year also provides regular reasons for Noosa to be in the spotlight and for visitors to find great reasons to visit Noosa time and again” said Mr Massingham.
